If you were only intending to use a single graphics card (GTS8800) so deciding between SLI and Crossfire wasn't an issue, would you recommended the ASUS P5N32-SLI SE DLX Sli or the Asus P5B Deluxe?

Or is there another decent quality option where you don't have to pay a premium for twin GPU support?

To be used with a Core 2 Duo 6300 CPU and standard (as opposed to expensive high performance) DDR2 memory.

Thanks in advance.

Anything but the P5N32-Sli SE Deluxe as its a SLi x16 board. If you just using a single card this MB would be useless. Those P5Bs and whatever else would work fine. Just make sure its P965 or 975 chipset.

It seems like ur building a cheapo system so a 965 chipset would prolly be right up ur alley.

Thank you for the reply grimmysnr.

I prefer to think of it as a "value" system rather than "cheap"

However, in a moment of madness earlier today I order a Gigabyte P965 motherboard as it seemed a good deal bundled with RAM, Core 2 6300 CPU and cooler.

But don't rag me too hard as my previous two motherboards have been ASUS.

Cheers.

There aint nothing wrong with that board at all. It will serve the purpose and then some. It seems like a web surfing, email checking, casual gamer type system. In which all of those components will do that perfectly. Although, i do think for everything else your getting that 8800 might be getting the short end. A card like any of the 8800 series needs a wide birth to do its magic and i think the rest of the components are going to hold it back from its potential.

Unless of course your going to be putting vista on and would like all the features thats comes with that package. But if the soul purpose of picking up that card is to do some gaming then i would atleast try and beaf up processor and ram just slightly (e6600 ateast). Of course your decisions are always your decisions i just hate seeing nice components being throttled by some "other than nice" components if you get my drift.

I dont truely expect that with that proc and ram that Crysis or any of the other DX10 titles would be kicking too much ass. I think they will play but i think you might be just slightly disapointed.

Either way, goodluck :)

Evidently, you know nothing of the writing technique called short hand. This isnt an english paper and im sure if you took a browse through all these forums there are folks who can barely put sentences together, OR TALK LIKE THIS, HeLl EveN THiS, and might as well throw in the ones who cant even write this far. Meh, i have a feeling i probably know you because if your only reason to register was to post that picture then I am actually flattered. You just spent 5 minutes of your time dedicated to me.

Goodbye now.

rofl, he registered just to post that. That's awesome.

He was commenting your grammar, not spelling or shorthand. There's a difference.

The SLi features on this board definately serve the purpose. Being x16 though it gives you a slight edge of future proofing. However, it is a Nforce4 chipset so your overclocks are not going to be as astronomical as an Intel chipset. Iv been able to reach a few minor overclocks on the CPU which really isnt that hard to achieve with a Core 2 Extreme. So your results may vary. One thing i have noticed over time with this board is its temperment with drivers. Its not the type of driver, its the order in which they are installed. This could mean the difference between loving or hating life.

For a while I was getting frequent lockups, BSODS, sound card crackling, and various other quirks. I swore I had a defective board and was building up the courage to send it back. I have done numerous builds in my lifetime all of which I have done the same way every time with this build being no different. I installed drivers a certain way and updates a certain all updated online etc etc. This time aparently things are different and i had to completely uninstall all Nvidia drivers/software. I ran Driver Cleaner Pro in safe mode then reinstalled everything starting with the chipset first. After the chipset i moved to sound then to display while omitting the Network Access Manager and firewall. Since then, I have yet to have any of the above said discrepencies and can even run dual screen playing two instances of World of Warcraft at the same time. The frame rate loss between splitting the OpenGL drivers is minimal. Not that i can truely play in dual screen because i cant really multitask like that but atleast i say i can do it.

In short: If your looking for a mean overclocker with SLi I'm sure there are better, newer boards available. See the 590 or 680i. If your looking for a nice board with mediocre overclocking but nice features all around then you will find enjoyment with the P5N32-SLi SE Deluxe. I been reading around and I think mose of these boards need alittle TLC to get them running stable.
