Question p8h67 can't detect 1060

Hey fellas. Having a problem that I find weird, but maybe it's not so weird to some of ya'll.
I just completed a Core v1 build for a pal (posting from it, in fact) with a p8h67-i and it can't see the zotac 1060 i put in it. The 1060 works fine in three of my other builds. A 1050ti I put in the v1 is working great. I just can't get it to even acknowledge the 1060. The fans spin but that's it, not a flicker of post, uefi or windows. Driver installer gives the old "nvidia installer cannot continue" chestnut after copying its files to c:\, which makes sense since the mobo doesn't seem to notice it. Windows fully updated.
Since I can't really OC or use gfx boost, I feel like the extra performance from the 1060 would be noticeably missed. Frustrated that I've lost like 9 hours on this one so far. I'm about ready to settle for 1050ti.
Thoughts or ideas to try? i5 2500k, 650w psu.
Also thanx!

Regular ol' boring (but new) psu, but just to be sure it wasn't the 6pin I put another working psu in- same result.
I think the culprit is the p8h67-i rev2. It's an aging mini itx I bought as a refurb and flashed to the latest. Freaking weird that it seems to have it in for the 1060. Maybe possibly a bandwidth issue is the only thing I can think of.

Strange how the 1050Ti works. I mean if it was a compatibility issue, neither would work being the same generation. The motherboard being 2nd gen Sandy Bridge and with Uefi support shouldn't be an issue. Even older legacy boards are able to run 10 series cards.

Could it be possible the card isn't seating properly? Like something on the motherboard blocking/preventing the card from being fully seated?

Thought of that, powered off and wiggled it/ pressed firmly down/ slightly raised at various points.
I sincerely appreciate the consideration. I think I'ma give up and move on. I have a professional ditch-digging buddy who's PC illiterate but really likes civ6, was hoping to floor him with impressive settings in a sexy little box, maybe spread his wings beyond. It'll run fine, just not as good as intended.
