New build, Ivy Bridge, two sticks of Corsair Vengence, the 1600C9 model.
1000 watt psu.

On power up, I get the CPU light, then the memory, then shut down and repeat.
On 3 occasions it made it through and got video and got to setup. When I would power down! back to the same. It saw all the memory, CPU, and I had no other devices plugged in. Thought it was the psu so I replaced. After two attempts it got me to the setup, now back to the same. I pulled the memory out and it does not reset and sits there with the mem ok light on. Any ideas?

RESOLUTION (for me atleast).

I had this same exact issue. I'm using a 3rd gen i7 3770k processor. CPU light would blink red, and i would get the cycle of turning on then off over and over. I reseated the CPU a couple times, tried changing the order of RAM, essentially went through process of elimination.

After researching the ASUS MB compatibility list, I found out that this motherboard does not support the new 3rd generation intel processors unless you update the BIOS to the latest version. Unfortunately, I had to get a lower model pentium processor temporarily just to get it POST and get into the BIOS.

After updating the BIOS, I installed the i7 3770k back in and everything booted like a charm.

I hope this works for you all.

Joey, I have also Asus P8Z68 v-pro gen 3 with i7 3770K. Memory: 16gb kingston 1600MHz XMS (kit of 4) and kingston ssd disk. I had the same bios issue. I flashed the newest bios version, but..., when I installed Win7 pro 64bit, pc freeze and fall into bsods.. I don't know why. All test (memory, cpu, etc) is without errors.. Any ideas? When I run windows update,, it freeze on some of them and I must reset or shutdown computer by power button only. My old computer Asus P5Q Deluxe with Core2Quad 9550 and 8gb kingston hyperx (kit of 4) memory runs perfect, without any errors.. I don't know, why newer thing are not good as the older.. (sorry for my english... i'm beginner)
Thanks
M.

So did you already fix this? I have exactly the same problem. First my computer would't boot when the newest bios wasn't installed. When I installed Windows I got bsod and freezes. And just as you I really couldn't update the windows updates. I would love to here how you fixed this? My specs are:

Asus P8Z68-V/GEN3 (not pro version)
Intel Core i5 3450 (ivy bridge)
Corsair CMV8GX3M2A1333C9

Hi Politiepet,
I Fixed some of problems.. I set memory configuration to XMS profile, and used Classic HDD (not SSD). Everything worked OK. Updates without errors. I installed all additional drivers, software, and all is OK. I tried to connect the new ssd disk to a gray 3GB/s - Intel- (not blue 6GB/s - Marvel) port, and all works ok. IMHO, ssd disks cannot by connected to Marvel 6GB/s ports on this motherboard. You can try to configure correct RAM timings and to connect your ssd to a Gray SATA port. Reinstall windows and check update. Maybe it helps..

Read the manual! There is a section that talks about putting the file in a USB flash drive on a specific USB port of the board and with JUST the power supply connected to the board (w/o memory or CPU installed) the BIOS can be securely flashed.
