So I just installed Win7 on my ssd. I went to the paging file tab and turned off paging file for my os partition and made a new partition for paging file only. When I restarted and checked to make sure everything was in working order, it said total paging files for all drives 200MB. I set the max paging file to 6GB and I checked to see if my relocation of it was in the volume I wanted and it was still there 6GB but when I look at the previous window it still says 200MB for all drives?? Dont know what Im doing wrong.

Also I know that with an ssd I dont need paging files but I also have a HD for storage so it was mainly for that.

Solution
Paging file is not for the type of drive at all, you can have a magic water based drive and it will use the drive for some paging file. SSD or regular drive does not matter. The reason people move the paging file off the SSD is to minimize wear on the drive.

6gb is way too much, turn off page file on the SSD if you want and set it to 2 gig for both min and max on the second drive. Make sure you click OK or Apply to save the settings.

Why make a partition for the paging file? Waste of time, it's a temporary storage space, no need to create a partition for it. It's like building a tiny house for your dinner before you eat it.

Don't make a partition on any drive for it. Set the page file to 0 on the SSD, and set it to 2 gig (that should be plenty) on the regular drive.

3-4GB is enough for the most (98%) users, if u have at least 6GB and more...

If W7 needs to page and u don't have enough, it will increase it by itself : )
