Painting GPU shroud

Hey guys,

I've been thinking of painting my GPU shroud to a white matte color and I'm not sure what kind of paint to use. I've heard that plastidip would be a good idea or maybe using white vinyl paint like what Teksyndicate did in a video. I am aware that this will probably (most likely) void my warranty but I can live with that.

Solution
if you are going to do many coats this will take a long time as you have to let each coat dry or you will get paint streaks. typically a primer will help with multiple surfaces and also with coverage of the old color.

a good local small paint store will also be able to help with more specific questions.

I'll check the video out more in details later but will the spray paint be good enough melt off the shroud?
Here's what I'm going to try to make it look like : http://imgur.com/a/ASXZ2

with the paint that he used and it is a spray paint with primer I do not think there is any chance that it would melt off. the shroud just does not get that hot. even when I was running CF 7950's that when overclocked and overvolted would run at 98C at times the shroud was not hot to the touch.

So just about any white spray paint/primer combo should do the trick?

He doesn't really explain anything about what paint to use but I was already assuming that spray paint would probably get the job done since it's only on the plastic shroud. Thanks for the help fkr.

Best results would likely be lightly sanding the surface to be painted (don't use a rough low grit that will leave deep scratches, just enough to lightly scuff so the primer can adhere). Light even coats and let dry around 20-30min in between to prevent running. There are paints especially suited to plastic, would probably be your best bet.

These are a couple of the more popular brands, may want to do a few searches to see what others are using or getting best results with. More important is that they're products formulated for plastics and designed to bond with plastic properly. (Different from metal paint or wood paint). Good luck with your project.

Here's a vid done by Bill Owen of mnpctech where he paints the plastic blades of a corsair sp120. The gpu cooling shroud will obviously be a different shape but the basic concepts will still apply.

One of the Rustoleum ones doesn't require primer but just a question, I'll be painting on a black shroud and spraying many coats on it. Will the white appear normal or will it be a little off since I'm painting on black? Just realized that a part of the shroud is metal if I'm not mistaken (the side part of the shroud on a Gigabyte Windforce cooler).
