What's the difference between these two printers?

at ftp.panasonic.com they only have the xk-p3123 files (and of course -- I
have the KX-P2123 printer). Why don't they list all the intermediate
printer files for the printers they used to sell?

I am looking for the setup disk on this XK-P2123 printer and also the
technical specification differeneces between the 2123 and 3123. Thanks>

Most of these printers are supported in windows already, which is nice
as they were pre win95 printers. I don't remember mine comming with a
setup disc, but if it did it would be on a 5.25 inch floppy. This age
was dependent on word processing programs supporting a printer rather
than "drivers", but the book included all the specifications for making
one. If your WP package didn't support this printer directly you
looked for KX-P1124 or used the printer's Epson or IBM emulation mode.

The drivers are likely not listed as they didn't make any. They
released specs that other people used to support the printer in the
software.

The KX-p2123 had 32k of ram - 14k buffer that could store a few pages
of text. Narrow carrage IIRC. I can't remember if that model had the
foam under it's lid to help make it quiet. But this was cool beans
when using the printer in DOS, you could actually exit your application
and it would continue to print for a few pages. I remember they
continued to sell this model at office depot long after they stopped
selling I believe it was the kx-2324, basicly the same printer but with
LCD display. But needless as this printer is circa early 90s at best,
totally pre-win95. I seem to remember KX-P1124 drivers worked with
this printer, but I don't remember how well, but there is an entry in
winxp for the KX-2123 so the point is moot.

The kx-p3123 has twice more ram, 64k so if needing 18k for overhead I
guess 46k buffer. Wide carrage if i'm not mistaken and still sold.
Has a quiet mode which has been measured as less than 45dBA.

thanks for the information.

The setup disk had a utility to set the fonts, pitch, quiet mode, etc., all
things you could do through the (convoluted) LED display panel, but from an
English language DOS program.

That utility is what I'm looking for, and I've tried downloading for other
panasonic kx-pxxxx (circa '90's) printers, but each printer apparently
requires a model specific utility.

As for drivers: I don't need those. You're right about Win9X and up --
there is a suitable Epson LQ emulation driver in Windows. And for old DOS
programs: Lots on the web to download!

Thanks Again!

P.S.: If anyone has the KX-P2123 setup disk with the printer setup utility,
let me know

As was already said it should be listed, but its manual also lists
two software emulations:

Epson LQ-850 and IBM Proprinter X24E.

My memory is so fuzzy on this subject I can't remember if my 2124 or
2324 came with a 5.25 inch floppy. Reference to a dos utility does
ring a bell but mine had the LCD panel so I wasn't very likely to use
the disc if it came with one

Unfortunatly you might have to resort to setting these things manualy.
As in finding the the codes you need to change modes and sending it to
the printer like so

echo con: lpt1:
<esc>x1 (command on my old nx-1000 for near letter quality mode)
^z(end your input and send to the printer)

Needless to say if you can find someone with the manual, unlike me that
gave away the panasonic manual away with the printer but for some
reason kept the star nx-1000 manual, you should be able to get by
without the software.
