I just received a K8T with the backplate and retention mechanism already
installed. I'm wondering whether this is a used board. Can you (all) tell
me whether it has been your experience to receive K8T Neo2's with the
retention mechanism installed (contrary to the pictures in the manual) or
could I have a used board?

Thanks
Al

I've never bought a K8T but all the other MSI boards I've ever bought
already had the retention mechanism installed.

Nope - had to install the backplate - large sticky pad, don't think it would
come off easily

I'll keep my fingers crossed. Hopefully whoever returned it did so because
they decided to get a dual or something but not because it was flaky.

Thanks for the post you guys.

My K8N board had the backplate installed. It came off easily so I had no
trouble installing another HT.

I've heard you can use a hair dryer to aid in removing the
preinstalled back plate, a little heat on the back plate helps release
the sticky pad.

I haven't had to try this myself, but would give it a go if I needed to
remove it. I would start on a low heat setting and heat it up slowly.

I built two K8N Neo2 Platinum systems and the boards came from two
different places. They both had the retention mechanism installed. The
box they came in was never opened. At least in my two boards they were
already installed.

I've purchases two of these new and (I guess) factory sealed. One had the
plate/retention installed and one did not.
