Partition confusion w8.1

Dell laptop, W8.1-64. Seems I have several unexplained partitions, one unexplained 'disk drive' Z:, and some unexplained unallocated space.

1. Drive Z: I have no recollection of creating this. The picture shows it as having one folder (RECOVERY) which is empty ... yet 35.4 MB is taken ... with only one empty folder???

2. There seems to be a LOT of 'redundant' partitions .. mostly 450MB (healthy) recovery partitions .. all seemingly empty. I have no recollection of creating those. There is also some unallocated space ... which seems odd.

3. I can only speculate all this may have been created by my using various IMAGE BACKUP utilities ... but really don't know.

4. What I would like to do is straighten this all out .. so much just doesn't seem right.

not sure if the images will post .. they don't show in PREVIEW. If not, I will deal with it ... somehow.

In addition to the normal win8 uefi/efi partitions *(3 I beleive) Dell would have created hidden system restore & troubleshooting partitions.

Just wanted to mention that I cant see your pics from work but I hoe I helped.

Thank you for the reply. Your advice is well taken. I believe the pictures will reveal there is something quite not right and thereby a solution. Thank you again.

If I knew what the FACTORY partitioning was, I could (probably) delete, merge, etc partitions back to orig .. but I don't know what original was.
