I just bought a 4TB ext HD for my backup and I want to partition it with 4 1TB partitions. I have to move files pict's etc from 3 different sources to 3 different partitions then move what I want to keep onto one of the partitions. After all that I will need to dump the unused files and then split the drive into 2 separate HD's ending up with one 3TB & one 1TB. How do I accomplish this. I have partitioned a HD before but that was a long time ago. Haven't had the need to do it since.

Solution
Start with the partitions you want to end up with and use folder, so a folder for source 1, source 2 etc. then a set of folders at the same level that you move the data you want to keep into. Much much easier and less risky that repartitioning.
