Hello everyone... maybe one of you smart folks can help me with my dilemma.
Bought the afore mentioned adapter for my laptop since the integrated one was having problems. Plugged in the adapter to my usb port, but the thing works just fine "right out of the box" in Ubuntu 13.2 (iirc). This laptop (Dell Vostro 1500) has a dual boot setup, where I run Ubuntu on one partition and Windows Vista (with the latest service packs) on the other.
I know the adapter works because I'm posting this from the laptop with Ubuntu just fine. The green light on the adapter is constant green, everythings great. Didn't even have to install anything to get it running.
On the other hand, I tried it in Vista, and no matter what I do (searched for hours last night) I get nothing. The green light flashes, I tried installing just the drivers from the cd, didn't work. I installed the included software and reinstalled the drivers, didn't work. I tried realteks software after uninstalling the other stuff, didn't work. I'm getting ready to try software from Patriot and see if that works.
I went as far as disabling my integrated wifi adapter in the bios to make sure nothing was conflicting, still doesn't work. There are no errors in the Device Manager (although I have some "!" for a bluetooth adapter, like 5 instances when the wifi switch is on). Shows Realtek 8188CU in Device Manager. When I run ipconfig /all, it shows the 10/100 controller, but it doesn't show the Realtek.
The MAC address in the included software shows 10:00:00:00:00 or something to that effect (not sure if it gets assisgned an address after connecting). I also changed the IP_v4 and IP_v6 to "auto dns" and "auto ip", nothing. I turned off the firewall/antivirus, and nothing. Not sure what to do at this point, and I know its going to be something simple. If I could use Solidworks on my ubuntu setup, I wouldn't bother with windows.
If you read this, thanks for the help, if not, thanks all the same!
Joey
