[SOLVED] Patriot Viper Steel 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 4000 clocking at 2133

I have a b450 f gaming motherboard and my ram is clocking at 2133 instead of 4000. When i go in the bios and switch to docp the computer doesnt post and i have to reset the bios. and i dont know the settings to manually overclock

4000MHZ and Ryzen is really pushing it, especially on a last generation B450 motherboard.

Try clocking the ram at 3200mhz

Go into BIOS. Disable DOCP. Set memory frequency to 3200mhz. try it

The Patriot Viper Steel Series DDR4 4000Mhz memory kit only has two XMP setting exposed to the bios, 3866Mhz and 4000Mhz. As has been said already, you need to manually set the speed to 3200 and for any overclock past 2800MT/s requires 1.35 volts for DRAM voltage.

Press your Delete key when the system boots up to enter the bios. The highest speeds you should attempt on Ryzen 2000 (including 3000G models) is 3466 and the "sweet" spot for Ryzen 3000 (not 3000G) is 3600. The bios "should" automatically set DRAM voltage to 1.35 when you set an overclock higher than 2666.

Also, you should update your bios to the newest version from here https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/ROG-STRIX-B450-F-GAMING/HelpDesk_BIOS/. It may also be helpful to read your manual at page 3.2 BIOS setup program. https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/ROG-STRIX-B450-F-GAMING/HelpDesk_Manual/

You could just leave it on an older version if there are no issues, but sometimes a bios update will make a memory kit function properly. You can update the bios on your motherboard through the internet when in the bios update tool. To properly update the bios on your motherboard with a USB drive, you need a USB drive formatted as Fat32. Then you copy the bios file from the downloaded bios zip file to the USB drive. Download the newest bios version from the motherboard support page here https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/ROG-STRIX-B450-F-GAMING/HelpDesk_BIOS/.

I'm going to refer you to the motherboard manual at 3.11.2 ASUS EZ Flash 3 https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/ROG-STRIX-B450-F-GAMING/HelpDesk_Manual/. Reboot the system and enter the bios and press F7 to enter Advanced mode. Then follow the instructions in the manual. You can first try updating through the internet and avoid the USB drive steps. Select DHCP for your internet connection unless you otherwise have to use PPPOE or a fixed IP address. You can always just do the USB method instead if it doesn't work.

how can i tell if its running it properly? i had it set to 3200 from before but i wasnt sure if it went through with it or not

Look in task manager. If it says 3200mhz or 1600mhz its running at the proper frequency.
