So, I pay for 105 down and 20 up but I'm only getting 5 down and 10 up. I'm not sure what to do because this problem has been going on for a very long time now. I've called them before and they said wireless connection degrades the connection. I don't think wireless connection can degrade a connection this badly. I've used ethernet before but I still only got 30 mbps and 15 up. I'm afraid that if I downgrade that my speeds will go further down. I could really use your guys' help on this one.

What modem, router and wireless cards do you have? I have the 105 plan from Comcast and I get about 116 down and 24 up on wired.

The wireless living room pc gets about between 95 to 110 down and 18 to 24 up

I have comcast :( so I'm not sure where exactly I can see the deal without logging in to my account.

I have the comcast provided modem/router thing and I have that exact same 105 plan, how do you get such high speeds?

I tested wired at speedtest.net and got 30 down 15 up, wireless I got 5 down and 15 up

Wifi speed tests are worthless for diagnosing a problem because they're dependent on interference, distance from the wifi router, and (for b and g networks) the speed of the slowest device on your network. 5-7 Mbps is not outlandish for a 802.11g network in a crowded environment.

You really have to test plugged in with a physical ethernet cable. 30 Mbps indicates a problem, but it could be with your computer and not the network. Ask some friends with laptops with ethernet ports to come over and help you test. Or if you've got a laptop with ethernet port, take it over to a friend's house and test there. Normal ethernet should top out at 100 Mbps or 1000 Mbps.

Also try several different speedtest sites (Google will give you a good list).

Your router may be having problems as well. Have you tried testing with your computer plugged directly into your ISP's modem?

Yeah, I heard that if you call the disconnection department or something like that they try to keep you in as a customer so I might try an do that and see if I can get better speeds at the same price.

Definitely not my computers fault, it's a brand new computer from this year and is a gaming PC of all things. I have 802.11ac internet so N internet is not a problem. Yeah the 30mbps was with a physical gigabit ethernet port. I've tried the most trusted speed test, testmy.net and it also gave me 4 mbps actually. I know it's comcast bending me over but I've never heard of such a big *. I wish I had another internet provider but comcast has a monopoly in my area. I have frontier but it's DSL and god knows how the * bad that can be. So, I'm really confused as to what to do right now but I might just call them threatening to leave and try to get a better deal at the same price or at least tell them to guarantee my speeds so I don't leave.

If you're paying for 105, and only getting 30 from a wired connection....call them and have a tech come out.

Don't threaten to leave, don't yell...just have someone come out and see what the issue is.

(and watch the language, please)

By threaten I meant like just telling them that I would leave if they don't fix the problem. I would have someone come out and check the issue but 2 guys have come before and they just said that it says that I'm getting 105 mbps on their end so there must not be a problem and it must be an issue with my devices. I've already confirmed that it's not. Sorry about the language :)
