Hi! I am looking for a good game in Japanese Anime format for DOS or WinXP/Vista. I am asking this because I like Anime and desire a game in the format. I looked in other places before but only found adult content and Sailor Moon dating simulators. I object to adult content, and I'm not ready for dating yet (even though I'm 32--but I like looking). I'm looking for action, Sci-Fi and Fantasy. I really want a rich game, but right now, I only have dial-up internet access, so a 3MB file will take at least 20 minutes to download. Given these conditions, does anybody have any suggestions?

I'm not a fan of japanese cartoons, so I can't tell you definitively what is out there. I can tell you that Goodoldgames ( www.gog.com ) has got a DRM-free copy of Guilty Gear XX-Reload for $5.99. It's compatible with Windows XP and it's renowned as one of the best fighting games ever made. It's a highly technical fighting game that takes a long time to perfect, and yes it's in the "anime" art style and I believe has an associated Japanese cartoon or comic or something along those lines.

Another Arc Systems game that is Windows XP compatible is Blazblue: Calamity Trigger. It's also a good fighting game in the Japanese cartoon style, however it's a bit more expensive.

If you consider a fighting game to fall under the action category, these are some of the best WinXP compatible options that I can think of.

Important to note that if you do pick up Guilty Gear, make sure that you avoid "Guilty Gear Isuka " on GOG.com. That game is awful.

The Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy series might float your boat.

Level 5 Studios teamed up with Studio Ghibli to develop an anime style game called Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. I'm not sure when it comes out though.

I don't know anything about the cartoons behind any of these series (so don't take this as insult about that if you're a fan), but as a game, it's not one of the good anime fighting games lol. It's never had a competitive scene.

I just checked out the video of Guilty Gear XX-Reload. It's great! I love the graphics and sound effects. It's a lot like Mortal Kombat, but it's a good version of Mortal Kombat. Let me see if I can get it.
