I am going to assemble a new pc and I was wondering if I could get some pointers.
I am planning to use this pc predominantly for gaming. The principal games I was thinking of were Dogfight 1942, Heroes Over Europe, World Rally Championship 3. Dont know about Batman Arkham and some older games like Combat Wings: Battle Of Britain and Combat Wings: Battle Of The Pacific.
I am looking at the Core 2 Duo e8600 for processor, the gtx 640 as gfx card and maybe upto 4 bg ram (or 2 gb). Dont know about the motherboard compatible or if the processor and gfx card will work together fine for the above mentioned games. If need be, I'll put in the info on system requirements (recommended for the games). I dont have much time to make a decision so a quick response will be much appreciated.

Generally, if you're seriously going to be gaming higher-level games, you need at least 3-core or quad-core CPU. More RAM would help too, I recommend 6-8 GB if you're heavily into gaming. You'd have to do more research on your own and maybe post a spec of what you're LOOKING to do as the final pc. Best of luck though

Hi DaronMal, I'll give more details on the system I'm looking at,
PC TO-BE-DECIDED-UPON SPECS-

OS-WIN 7 64 BIT
------
PROCESSOR-Core 2 Duo e8500 3.16 ghz (e8600 is'nt available and I dont if i3 will be good for the below mentioned games or any future new non-quad proccessor based games)
------
RAM-DDR3 2/4Gb (which will be better-at my affordability, I'm looking at either Transcend or more expensive Corsair simple DDR3)
-------
GFX CARD-GeForce Gt 640/650 1 OR 2 GB-which will be better for beloew mentioned games (Gtx 660 is to damn expensive for me)
--------
DX-9.0C because
I tried to play Combat Wings Pacific Heroes from 2007 on my Win 8 64 bit DX 11 with Integrated GFX with Dedicated GFX mem of 64 MB
However,
I have played Combat Wings Battle Of Britaion which also requires 64mb gfx but runs on DX 8 which I guess my DX 11 supports
(bear in mind I will list the DX 11 compatible GT 460 768 MB requiring Batman Arkham City even though core DX requirement for the game is DX 9.0c)

any other newer games I can play on the above mentioned specs once thats been properly worked out with your help
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I know all this is a cluster f*** but there's a limit to my research and I think from here on in, on my own, I may be going on hunches. A bit of specificity from your end and anybody else out there will be so much doubtlessly useful for my money to be appropriately spent. I recently bought an HP all-in-one with integrated gfx as mentioned above of just 32 mb and I was vaguely coerced due to lack of focussed knowhow, just 2 weeks ago and ther's no one else to consult, so I'm shit out of luck squarely depending on your responses or a guess and go hit and trial method as an alternative.

Under the Direct X-9.0C
I mentioned tying to play Combat Wings Pacific Heroes which required 64 MB gfx and exclusive dx 9.0c on my Win 8 64 bit intergrated gfx HP pc (newly bought 2 weeks ago) and it never opened after installation as my DX 11 did'nt support 9.0c.
That was'nt properly clarified in my previous post.

Whats the motherboard? PSU? If you're wondering if they're all compatible I'd need to know everything about the build.
I look up the specs and it sounds like you could run the games without flaw, but Im sure you'll want to buy and play newer games and a 2 core isn't going to do it for you on any modern games

Can you suggest a motherboard and PSU to go along with these specs, I'm a newbie in this and would like your input on it.

I have seen the recommended requirements on some new games like Batman Arkham City where graphics interface with DX 11 even though core Dx usage is with 9.0c.
Dogfight 1942 is from last year, Batman Arkham 2 years ago (2011) and while Crysis 3, Skyrim, Battlefied 3 and especially Total War may require quads, I wont be playing them. I'm not a heavy gamer but I would really like to play the games mentioned below in the list below .

Thanks Metalrenok for info. I looked it up and here's my cost pile up-
MOBO-Asus p5q Pro Turbo $120-$160
PSU-Corsair VX550 $140
PRO-Core 2 Duo e8500 $140
RAM-2 GB Kingston $40
GFX CARD-GeForce Gt 640 2 gb $100
HDD-Gonna use the old SATA (dont know the config will expand on that next time)
WIN7 Install and softwares ?

Am I correct on these fronts or am I off? Without the last 2 (HDD and installs on the old HDD), my costs are running up to $550 and after just buying the all-in-one HP 2 weeks ago with bloody integrated graphics and no facility to add gfx card if I wanted to, and with the primary concern of using this assembled rig for mid gaming, this cost is too much. Do provide some pointers in any permutaions of the above specs, so long as I can play the games listed in the previous post.

FORGOT TO MENTION THE BUDGET-500 USD
Oh, and also wont the i5 you suggeted have integrated gfx. I know the possibility of adding gfx card and plugging onitor int port of gfx card, but,
a) i5 is so expensive and
b) if any combination would help me keep my budget of around 500 usd.

Thanks for the info Metalrenok but does'nt the apu come with integrated graphics and the link you provided did not not specify any add-on graphics gard for specific true graphic memory. I read it in some forum here on Tom's Hardware
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/324378-28-versus (1st answer),
that when a gfx card more powerful than the AMD Radeon HD 7660D (256 gfx mem) provided as integrated graphics mem, is put in, it gfx card will take precedence in use over the integrated gfx mem. Is tha true. Because I will play games that will certainly require 512 mb gfx mem (Dedicated), and some may require 1 gb. So will the integrated gfx cut it and if not which gfx card will be compatible with true gfx mem of 1gb? I was looking at 640 gt ddr3 2 gb from nvidia's geforce line.

You won't need a dedicated graphics card because the APU has a HD 7660D, but it'll be better if you play at 720p.. APUs are great for tight budget PCs and I'm pretty sure you'll be able to play all these games at high resolutions because they don't seem too demanding!
If you want to go for a CPU and a dedicated graphics you may have to spend a little more to get quality
