hello o/
(this is the next chapter of my quest for a nice setup that works properly...)
recently i've bought a new mobo (gigabyte ga-970a-ud3p) planning to overclock my cpu (fx8370e).
after getting it to fit in my old case (yep, i need another one too :[ ) i noticed that my PSU does not have the 2x4 (8) pin connector for the cpu. instead, its just a 4pin.
anyways, it managed to work, connecting just that.
so, i was looking up in the bios, and trying to see if i could make it run in a stable 3.8 , 3.7 without raising voltage or anything (because it get above it with turbo boost). another thing that i've tryed to set is my ram propper speed (1600)
but, every time i set the cpu to constant 3.6 or/and the RAM to 1600, it shuts down mid boot sometimes until it turns on with a message that and "boot error due to wrong config in bios, etc etc" > "change to defaults and turn on"

it could be PSU fault, because of the 4 pin connector?

Solution
well I guess your problems _could_ be related to your PSU not distributing enough power.
it's not clear though.
could be a bad OC as well.

furthermore make sure you buy a quality PSU like a Seasonic, Super Flower or XFX (except the XT-line and the TS430)

if it fits inside the case I don't see a reason to change it tbh
your OC settings seem to not be stable.

but if your CPU needs a 8pin connector, a 4pin just won't deliver enough power. especially when OC.
furthermore the CX500 is pretty low quality, depending on the age it could not output enough power anymore all together,

reset your settings and see if you can boot the same way as you could before.

but I'd replace that PSU even if it's not damaged if you want to OC a fx8370e

in defaults it turns on ok. I'm using it right now haha.
then, I will buy another PSU as soon as possible.
1 last question: my case is very small (to the point that the mobo almost didn't fit it at all. but the temps are ok in all parts, gpu, cpu, mobo etc.
should I care to change it asap too or it will do no harm at all?
my money is low and i, right now can't buy a PSU+case. just one or another..

I can't think of a single 500w corsair that doesn't have a 4+4 pin plug mate honestly, even going back to the GS models from 2010.

At 3.7ghz your CPU will be drawing 120-130w from the vrm's , that PSU , if it only has a 4 pin plug is likely very low quality, low wattage & wildly off spec.

You may not have increased voltage manually but the board will do automatically.

4 pin isn't going to be enough.

I'd set your CPU back to stock , & sortvthe ram issue out first.
You may have to enter timings manually depending on if it has proper xmp/amp profiles or not.

That board does a double boot safety feature as soon as you disable turbocore mate to save you killing your system by doing something silly.

Thanks madmatt! if i just set everything to defaults (including turbo core that is activated in default setup) there's any risks? or is safe? (at least until I can change my psu)

You're safe at default because its a 95w chip at stock mate.
& yes you should get your PSU changed really ,any 500w labelled unit with only a 4 pin atx is either very cheap, very old , very crap, or not really a 500w unit at all (or possibly a combination of all of those)
