Background: All displays on my PC have been randomly going black and my PC restarts. I can't seem to figure out the cause. This issues only happens during normal web browsing or idle tasks. When underload and playing games the PC will operate fine with no restarts. It will restart 10min after boot into Windows and other times it will work properly for 1-2 hours before restart.

The main problem that confuses me the most is why this happens only during **low/idle** tasks and not during gaming.

Specs:
AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
Asus Prime X670E-Pro WIFI ATX
G.Skill Trident Z5 6000 64GB 2x32
Nvidia 4090 FE
EVGA SuperNOVA 1300 GT

Please let me know if you need any details I might have left out.

Troubleshooting:

Below is a list of all things I have tried

1. DDU all drivers for both 7800X3D and 4090 for fresh driver install.
2. Downloaded latest BIOS update 1809. (Newer BIOS was released at the beginning of the month when looking up the version for this post. Will try updating this evening but I'm not hopeful that will fix it.
3. Turning off EXPO profile in BIOS. No fix.
4. MemTest86 test on both sticks of ram. No errors found.
5. Switched out 4090 with a 3080ti and 2080ti. The restarts were still present. So I don't believe its a GPU problem.
6. Swapped power supply. No fix.
7. Reinstalled Windows 11.
8. Attempted all the above options on fresh Windows install.
9. Tried all kinds of BIOS setting from searching around online and no fix.
10. One troubleshooting attempt I plugged one monitor (1) into my 4090 and monitor(2) in the Mobo using the integrated graphics. The PC stayed on for about 2 hours, but when I notice the monitor(1) go black monitor (2) remained on. When moving the mouse there was awful latency and choppiness navigating the desktop. Wasn't sure if this detail might help?

I've been dealing with this issue for multiple weeks now and can't seem to find a solution.

Any and all ideas are welcome. Please help.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

Downloaded latest BIOS update 1809. (Newer BIOS was released at the beginning of the month when looking up the version for this post. Will try updating this evening but I'm not hopeful that will fix it.
You should reflash the BIOS with 1813./ Once you've verified that the BIOS was successfully flashed, power down, disconnect from the wall and display, then remove the CMOS battery for 30 mins, press and hold the power button for 30 secs. Replace the battery, enable E.X.P.O and then see if the issue persists.

How are you cooling the processor?

5| + 6| What PSU did you replace the EVGA unit with, for ruling out your PSU being at fault?

Reinstalled Windows 11
Where did you source the installer for the OS? Did you install the OS on offline mode+manually installing all drivers in an elevated command?

Thank you for the reply!

I flashed BIOS with version 1813 and followed the instructions when removing the CMOS. Just enabled EXPO. Will post an update is after I leave the PC on for a while.

I use a NZXT Kraken Elite RGB 360 CPU cooling.

The power supply with an old EVGA 750W I used a couple years ago and also tried an EVGA 850W that I took out of my Unraid server to test.

I used the Windows Media Creation tool to make a USB installer. Install was offline and drivers were manually installed.

Just after that update post the screens went black and the PC restarted. The issue is still present.

The event viewer did show more errors than it did previously this time:

Hey Zaidom, I made a post very similar to yours. But it was closed because of similarity. Did you manage to fix yours since November?
Yes, after searching online more I was able to find a thread that said software and programs that have hardware acceleration enabled can trip the nvlddkvm.sys file and cause a crash or bsod. After turning hardware acceleration off in multiple programs such as Discord and Spotify my screens stopped going black randomly when idle. I haven't had a bsod or crash since about 1 a week past the date of this post.
