I have a Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3 based PC. I had been having problems getting into the BIOS (Delete at POST / Logo screen). I remembered Gateway had previously said one should turn off the PC, unplug the power cord, and remove the CMOS battery for 10 seconds. I actually had it out for over a minute. When I tried booting up the unit, I got as far as the Award BIOS screen with the message "CMOS checksum error - Defaults Loaded". I triple checked to make sure the CMOS battery was installed correctly. The PC would freeze and the PC was unresponsive. Has "Black Beauty" finally bit the dust?

use only 1 stick of ram in slot 2. freezes are associated with ram mostly.
