PC boot problem when Kingston 4GB RAM is installed

Hi Friends,

I have a PC with foll. Specs:

AMD II X3 Phenom 720 BE CPU
Asus M4A785TD - V EVO Mobo
Kingstong KVR1333D3N9/2G - 2GB 1333MHz RAM
Seagate SATA 500 GB HDD
Zebronics Power Supply

The PC is around 3 years old

I wanted to upgrade my RAM with a 4GB stick running along with my old 2 GB stick in Dual Channel Mode

My Motherboard supports has 4 RAM slots, each can support a maximum of 4 GB stick till 1800 MHz

I bought a Kingston 4GB RAM (KVR13N9S8/4 - SP). When this RAM is installed in my PC, my PC is powered on, but not booting up. I am not able to hear any beeps nor see boot screen. Monitor light keeps blinking.

I tried running my PC with this new 4GB stick alone by installing it in each slot, but all had the same result. But my PC is running with my old 2 GB Kingston KVR1333D3N9/2G RAM.

Can you please help me with this issue. Also I have few questions below:
1. Will my system support the Kingston 4GB KVR13N9S8/4 - SP RAM, or is it wise to exchange it for KVR1333D3N9/4G (same model as my old one but a 4GB RAM)
2. Can I use my old 2 GB RAM too along with this new RAM as i need both sticks to run in parallel

If with just the new stick it doesnt boot, it sound like a bad stick...

but for sure test it with memtest86 with one stick at one time, for 3-4 cycles..
it will help detecting the bad stick...

if all stick were fine then try testing each slot.....
if there a bad stick u can try rma it (claim the warranty)

also:
1. not sure not checked the mobo spec / ram spec (internet laging, will update later)
2. yes, as long as the same type in the same pair/channel (try refer to mobo guide book/pdf for memory installation/configuration..)

PN KVR13N9S8/4-SP is not compatible with your M4A785TD-V EVO and swapping for KVR1333D3N9/4G will clear all that right up. We do have KVR1333D3N9/4G listed as compatible for your mobo. In short, both parts have the same general specifications DDR3, 1333Mhz, CL9, and 1.5V but there is a key difference the part you bought is Single Rank and what is recommended is Dual Ranked. Simplest explanation here is that the part you bought is made with chips that are too large for your mobo to read so swapping parts will resolve this issue. Also to run properly in Dual Channel mode you would need a matching pair of memory modules, meaning both sticks would need to be of the same specifications and capacity. Dual Channel only works when Channel 1 = Channel 2 or DIMM_A1 + DIMM_B1 = DIMM_A2 + DIMM_B2. The system will work both of these modules (KVR1333D3N9/4G and KVR1333D3N9/2G) but it would not run with dual channel performance. It shouldn't hurt to check for an update but it is always best to check the release notes to see if you are having the issues indicated for the fix. As they say 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' . Latest BIOS version is 2105 dated 8/12/2010. At a glance you would at least want to be at version 2005 for system stability and be sure to follow the instructions exactly if/when flashing your BIOS.

I now have Kingston KVR1333D3N9/4G - SP. Still I have the same issue. When i install this 4GB ram into my mobo, the PC is not booting and no beeps. Just the monitor blinks. But the system works fine with my 2 GB. In my mother board manual Asus has mentioned that 4 GB sticks are supported by each slot (4 slots are available). Also Chips made of 256 MB or less are not compatible. But to my surprise my existing 2 GB ram is made up of 256 X 8 Chips, but it works. My new RAM is 512 X 8 which does not work.

Guys am running nuts. Please help. I did not think such a problem will arise with an Asus MOBO.
Am yet to flash my BIOS and try. That is my last hope. Please help me with any other suggestions.

I am using M4A785TD-M EVO , with AMD PHENOM II X4
The solution for this problem is simple , u just need to upgrade to the latest bios ..
I'm using KVR13N9S8/4
It works fine .
