PC build 2015

For any price segment, I won't recommend any GTX 980. It's just a fully unlocked GTX 970, and you aren't getting much more than a GTX 970 in performance.

Hey so I already have the case and power supply got them for an even better price than listed. Also I will need either a 5820k or a 5830k for the extra cores.

Gaming, and lots of editing and rendering then some graphic designer. So would I be better to save and go 980ti or just go 970? I am trying to make it future proof as much as possible.

Im going to assume your rendering is the GPU intensive type in which case if you have the money, are gaming and want future-proof definitely go with the 980ti. If you have any more money after that, then I would try to get on the X99 platform with say a 5820k cause video editing is CPU intensive

Alright so this is what I got now.
https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Bremnerm/saved/#view=ByjV3C how dose that look? Also is that evga mother board good? I've been told to go with Asus by everyone, should I?

Thats a pretty good, a couple things you should be aware of: the 5820k is the only x99 chip that doesn't support 40PCIe lanes, it supports only 28, meaning that if you ever wanted to expand in the future and get another GPU, for SLI, on top of the GPU you plan to get or another device that uses the PCIe gen3 x 16 slot you would be limited to PCIe gen2 x 8 since 16+16=32 which is more lanes(28) that your CPU could support. So it only really matters if you want to get two GPUs or two PCIe Gen3 x 16 slot devices some time in the future

Also that board you picked, PCIe lane allocation splits from x16/x16 to x8/x8/x8 for three PCIe devices no matter what CPU you choose. In case you weren't aware common components that use the PCIe slot include, GPUs, PCIe SSDs(the fastest SSDs in the world), sound cards and other port expansion cards like USB expansion cards for example. So there's that.

If I were you I would get either a Gigabyte, Asus, or Asrock motherboard. Those brands are all excellent. you gotta do your research though, figure out which one suits your needs the best

Also its not much but you save $30-60 if you got some RAM that wasn't as fast. Every source I've ever seen/read/heard says the speed and type of RAM makes very little difference, in fact some have found that the fastest type of RAM performs slightly worse b/c as speed increases, latency increases. the only thing that matters a lot is the amount. 16GB is perfect but I would try and found some DDR4 2666MHz, that seems to be the sweet spot. Also the RAM you picked is optimized for 6th Gen Intel Core Processor & Z170, not X99. Find some DDR4 RAM that is built/optimized for X99. It usually will say which platform its optimized for in the description

Alright so this is what I've got I've read really good things about this motherboard. How dose it look and which is more futer proof 5830k or 5820k https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Bremnerm/saved/#view=ByjV3C thank you so much for all the help also.

No problem its always good to get some feedback.

That looks pretty good. I still don't like that motherboard but it seems like your partial to it for some reason. If your satisfied with 1080p gaming then the GTX 970 and the 5820k will be enough. The main reason someone would get the 5830k isn't for future proofing but for getting more PCIe lanes so they can use more than one GPU but since that board limits you to 1 GPU already then the 5820k is a better fit for it. The new ram looks good, its same stuff I have. I think your all good
