Hi,

I have been playing games a lot recently and was looking to invest my money in a good/worth the price custom built pc as it seems to be better doing and funner. Also this means the possibility of customization and removal of certain parts in the future. I am not very experienced in this sector and require assistance and suggestions. I have about 900euro/ $1,200/750pounds to spend. I do not mind whether it slightly exceeds my money limit, I am looking for the best build I can get with that money NOT including any monitors/peripherals .etc. I have looked at PCPartPicker and do not have much of a clue where to start, I've looked at videos and have the general idea of what I need - I would prefer Nvidia over ASD. Whatever suggestions and must haves will be a great help! I am not sure what the average price for each component should be and how to balance everything out. Not to forget, I do little work, only microsoft word .etc. I will also be watching bluray films, at the moment I have a DVD drive to use and plan to buy a bluray drive in the future, I don't mind whether it is included in the overall build for the moment. At the moment I play Rust, DayZ, Metro, Bioshock, Borderlands, Skyrim and a whole list of similar games quite similar. I will also be looking to keeping this for 2 years or more and be playing games such Titanfall and possibly other mainstream games.

Solution
if you can stretch the budget a little bit, i'd go with this build:

it has an i5 processor (one of the best for gaming), a 780(also one of the best for gaming), the corsair case, a highly rated psu, an ssd for your operating system and programs and your favorite games, and a hard disc drive for everything else. where i am it comes into $1250, which is a little more than you wanted

i can probably make it a little less expensive if you want, without sacrificing much gaming performance

Alright I will reply properly tomorrow! Thanks a lot for the help!

sorry for the delay, i was out all day yesterday. i suggest when you try gaming take the side panel off the case, either 1 or both, but 1 from the gpu side should work, and it should lower your temps a little bit. it may be your processor thats throttling back due to temps, what do your temps read on hwmonitor?

i forget exactly when intel cpus start throttling, but i think its around 70 celcius. if the processor is going over 70 then thats why your getting fps drops. its just cause the stock cooler is pulling in hot air that isnt being exhauseted. maybe take off the other side panel as well? it should help the case breathe more

Hi guys, sorry I've been busy. My cable adapter arrived but it's not necessarily what I need... I needed a 3/4 pin female to connect to the motherboard and split into 3x3/4 pin males. Instead the cable i bought was a 1x4pin female to connect to the motherboard which split into 2x4pin male connectors and 1x3pin female... So I can now connect 2 fans to mother board and then with my bitfenix sppectre 230mm came a molex to 2pin male small wire, I figured saving the hassle of sending the wire back I will connect my bitfenix spectre 230mm and one 120mm case fan to the motherboard with this cable I bought, and then use the molex to 2pin male to connect the other 120mm to the psu so that will be full speed which I don't mind the life span being reduced because I care more for the life span of the 230mm fan. Also is it possible I connect a 3pin female connect to the 2pin male connector?

Well, I've connected my 230mm intake fan and the 120mm fan exhausting out the back to the motherboard and the other 120mm fan exhausting out the top to psu, I tried Metro Last Light on full settings and my temps were much better, even the case didn't get as hot. My cpu temperautre averaged at 55 or so rarely going over 60 and my gpu temperature was average at about 70 or so and I set the fans on the gpu at 60%. The noise isn't too bad, I generally use as headset but without the noise isn't disturbing :) So yeah you were right about all the fans being connected will help, I could probably reduce the gpu temperature by swapping the side panel out for the original ventilated one or not have a side panel of that side at all, if it becomes a problem I'll put on the ventilated one but for now I like the windowed one. All I have to wait for now are my 30cm green LED lights to light it all up then it's finished I believe! In the future I shall be replacing the 2x120mm case fans with bitfenix spectres green LED possibly 1x140mm exhausting at the back and 1x120mm exhausting out the top.

See ? I was right :) Later on you might want to replace the fans ( not the 230mm one ) with at least 80.0CFM fans , because small cases get hot

PC Cooling Tips for Summer Time Temps

Thanks! I put it on 60% all the time, I haven't gone into too much detail as to setting different profiles for different situations, but I realised keeping it on 60% all the time isn't the best idea, I realised this when doing some tests with MSI kombustor and my gpu temps were going up to 90 degrees and I realised I hadn't changed my gpu fan speed and it was stuck at 60%, so I put it on auto and there was a graph line you could adjust what % your gpu fans run depending on you gpu's temperature, it was on for example 60 degress 60%, 70 degress 70% and so on. But when doing some MSI kombustor tests i never saw my gpu going over 92 degrees and that is pretty good from what I've read on gpu temps. I installed Mcafee and am currently installing more games to do more tests rather than using Metro LL all the time as I am stuck on this scene where it hits 8fps as you know which is very strange.Once my green LED strip arrives I will be taking pictures and putting them up within the week and will notify you when I do!

thats good, it makes me wonder what the temps were getting to before....

anyway, it may just be me worrying but id try to bring down those temps a little bit. 90 is about where its safe but i like to get a little better margins so that if its running load for hours on end it wont go over the max temp.

what i did to my gpu was set the fan really low when its at browsing temperature (for me thats around 50c) and so i set it at a low fan speed from 45 to 55. then, i ramp up the fan speed after that cause if its getting hotter i must be gaming. it helps keep my temps down alot more.

since im running an older gpu it runs really hot (i was hitting 100c in an older case with no airflow and stuff) and it idles at 50c. i max out at 80c now, which is pretty good difference for me

Yeah I was only getting 90 degrees when I left the fan on 60% in the MSI kombustor test. I then changed the fan to auto so the fan speed changes in relation to the gpu temperature. This helped a lot, I didnt hit 90 degrees when gaming, this was in a intense MSI Kombustor test it was very gradually increasing by 1 degrees each time and I didnt see it go over 92 degrees.

can you monitor your temps while gaming? maybe an hour or so into gaming just alt-tab out to look at msi afterburner and make sure its not getting too hot. i doubt it would be near 92 (for example stress testing i hit 80 but gaming i barely hit 70)

I tried Battlefield Hardline all setting on ultra and was getting a constant 80 degrees and about no less than 50fps! I will let you know benchmarks for other games that I properly try for a good length of time!

Great! Even on Crysis 3 all setting set to 'Very High' and the anti aliasing quite low, I was on 80 degrees. I shall be taking photos of the build within the next few days so hang on! :)

that looks so awesome. here's a comment i put on pcpartpicker:

"this put a massive smile on my face :)

those are some awesome pictures and the cable management is alot better then i was expecting, you did a great job in such a small case with a non-modular psu.

definatly a +1 from me"

i liked the description and man. those pictures. im sure they dont look as good to you but they look professional and great :)

EDIT: thats going on my bookmarks bar, i want to see how the pcpartpicker community reacts (they are gonna say good things)

That comment put a smile on my face xD I hoped you would like it, you helped loads making this PC I depended on you loads! I will put it to good use, thank you for the crazy amounts of time and effort you put into this. I will be buying parts like maybe a Bitfenix spectre 140mm green LED and a 120mm green LED for the back to add to the colour scheme and I'm thinking about spray painting some parts of the case like the silver rim on the front a alien/fluorescent green.

sorta like this? http://i.imgur.com/IaKJEh.jpg

that would look cool. also, you can paint the handle parts like this:

http://sphotos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/61482_4561733088710_293062745_n.jpg

or you can get real interesting and try something like this: http://cdn.overclock.net/7/7c/500x1000px-LL-7ccf159c_IMG_0146.jpeg

for the last one, it looks like a black case and they painted the top panel red and the internal red. i dont suggest trying to paint the internal of the case just yet. or it was a red case and they painted the internal red and the handles black

Exactly like the first one! And the second one I'm not sure how it would look but it depends if I find the right paint which matches the green LEDs. Also I would paint the rim of the top fan filter. There is a very thin 3mm rim that I've seen someone paint and it looked really cool so I thought I'd try.

yea the second one seems a little wierd. on a case it would be very sudden changes of color, smooth is better in my opinion. have you seen this on pcpartpicker? http://pcpartpicker.com/b/xYCJ7P

instead of all those different colored lines, you can do a single green strip diagnal on the side panel and top. obviously youd skip over the panel window but if its measured out and marked of with painters tape correctly it can look awesome
