[SOLVED] PC Build for 4k Video Editing

Hi All,
(Apologies if this is in the wrong place)

Basically Im about to upgrade/buy a new PC as Ive started to dable in 4k editing. (Only for youtube videos) My current 6 year old PC can just about manage it but I feel it does need to be retired.
So ive shopped around, done a fair bit of reading up on various CPUs, GPUs etc and then within my budget I have come up with this. (See below)
Im very happy with it but just wondered if any one had any additional thoughts. (This setup comes to around the £1500 mark. (Technically £200 over budget but no one will ever know!)
Ive also placed my current PC specs to compare if anyone was interested. :)

NB: It will be used constantly with Premier and Photoshop. Wont be used for gaming.

It can be helpful to put "in progress" files on an SSD, but that may be expensive depending on how long/big your 4k videos are. Then you "archive" them to the hdd(s).
A 1TB main SSD is certainly going to have a bunch of free space left over after installing the OS and programs on it. Whether that's enough to hold the quantity of videos you want/need, is dependent on your particular needs/usage. Maybe go with the 1TB SSD + 4TB HDD you have specc'd right now, and see where that gets you. Can always add work-in-progress SSD later.
I know PSU prices are crazy high right now, but I don't think that Corsair CV PSU deserves to be in a build like this.

Kinda think the mobo could be better also. Do you have a plan if that mobo doesn't ship with a Ryzen 3000 BIOS already installed?

Sorry I should of said that I wont be building it myself, Im not that brave yet unfortunately.

Ive been to a few computer shops and got quotes for builds, plus checked websites where they build a custom PC too and everywhere came back around the £1700-£1900 mark.


So I dabbled around myself configuring a few specs on a website and got to the build posted previously.

Because of this (and price of course) choice of parts is limited.

I can upgrade the motherboard to the following (if you think its worth it?)

Gigabyte B450 AROUS ELITE for an extra £20.
or
ASUS TUF GAMING B550 PLUS for an extra £40.

As for the PSU, do you think the build deserves better?
I thought CORSAIR where ok. (I think that make is in my current PC)

Theres an option for the following for an extra £30:

Btw, As you can see Im quite hopeless when it comes to the inside of PCS!
9 out of 10 times i can fix them when people come to me with a problem. But when it comes to the hardware...I get a bit lost! (Fail)
 
I had a sneaking suspicion that your spec list wasn't a "build-it-yourself" PC

Of the bunch, I'd prioritize the TXM 550W PSU. The mobo upgrade is going to depend on how much extra you're willing to pay since you already stated your budget is 1300 (right?).

What's your thought on a 2060 Super instead of the 2070 Super?

Sorry yes £1300 was my original budget but somehow ive convinced myself £1500 is ok too! 😲
Good point on the 2060 super, that was what i was going to go with originally, but then after reading about the 2070 Super, everyone seemed to be raving about it. Couldnt seem to find a bad thing about it tbh! Then I happened to find out what my friend has in his new build and there it was...the 2070 super. (He does VR game/animation/creation though)

The TXM 550W PSU was again my original thought as its "ultra quiet" apparently too!

So just to update...

Same specs except with

TXM 550W PSU
and
2060 Super

comes to
£1437...

or just go with the 2070 super as well for £1536...

I would imagine that a 2060 Super is going to do just fine with video editing. You're really just looking for the updated NVENC encoder I presume.

not really, at first when I selected the 2060 I just thought, “it can’t be THAT different” but then the more I looked into it the 2070 just kept cropping up all the time. .

I always regret the GPU I bought with my original build. It was great and has done its purpose but since I’m planning to go all out 4K video editing I’m treating this like an investment of some sort and don’t want to be held back by the GPU. (If that make me sense.

is there much notable difference between the 2060 and 2070?

plus side with the 2070 super is bragging rights I suppose!
 
Poke around PugetSystems website a bit more.

Looks like ABSOLUTE worst case scenario, you'd see a 15% difference between the 2060 Super and the 2070 Super. I'd have to research more to figure out how much time that translates to. It's up to you to decide whether that's worth the extra $$. It's not like the 2060 Super won't do what you need.

No no dont do that, you have already helped me enough. I think Ill defo go for the power supply you mentioned and then ill do some thinking about either the 2060 or 2070.

May even look into hard drives again too. SSDs are great but i only planned on using one for the operating system (and premier/photoshop) and then standard 3.5inch drives for storage. But it could be worth investing in at least 1 more SSD for projects as well.

Overall im not too fussed about exporting times as usually i dont finish a video until the early hours so i start the export and go to bed. Ha ha!

Its more during playback smoothness without having to render all the time is what Im after. My current PC seemed to be doing ok with it, but then recently I now have to render every time I add a new fade/clip etc which just adds hours and hours of extra work time.
