Hello guys
IAM planning to get new CPU to upgrade from my 12th gen i7
Which cpu should I get the i9 14900k or Ryzen 7 9800x3d
My use is for gaming and recording my gameplay with Nvidia instant replay and is there will be a difference in installation time of games between the 2 CPUs like which cpu installs games faster
And I have gtx 1660 super I play games at 1080p now but IAM planning to get rtx 5070ti after maybe 3 or 4 months to be paired with one of the above CPUs
I also have 32gb ram ddr5 6400mhZ cl32 and arctic liquid freezer 3 CPU cooler
So which cpu will give me best FPS on 1080p now because that's the resolution IAM gaming on at the moment maybe later I will be gaming at 2k so which cpu will be good for now and future

If you have 12th gen, the only logical choice is 14th gen. You would need a new motherboard to switch to AMD, and likely need to re-install your OS.

Game install and load times are mostly going to be down to your storage solution, not so much the CPU.

Best FPS is likely to be from 9800X3D at lower resolutions like 1080p, but that is very much game dependent. Fast paced games are more likely to benefit, while games that require more computational power (simulations/strategy/etc) will be better served by the 14700K/14900K

The higher your resolution the less the CPU matters as the heavy lifting is moved to the GPU.

9800X3D should last you longer, because the motherboard is likely to have new CPUs available for it in the future. At least one more generation.

Not great for gaming, but not bad either, is also Intel Arrow Lake (15th gen), branded as the Core Ultra 200 series. Core Ultra 9 285k, Core Ultra 7 265K. This is basically a little less performance in gaming then the 14th gen chips, but is a lot more efficient. These chips are still fairly expensive though, so don't often get much attention.

GPU is running 90%, saying there is a little bit of room at 1080p to go so that an even faster CPU may help, but it more likely the game engine that is holding it back. You can also look at the other game comparisons.

Videos are hard to trust though, so look at a few before making any decisions.
