I just bought a barebones system that has a PcChips 810lmr motherboard. Does anyone have any experience with this motherboard? Is the integrated audio/video any good?

Thanks..

CCM,
I just recieved one of my dad's old k6-2 400 computers that had a pcchips motherboard in it (not this one). From what I've been able to find, pcchip boards are terrible. One review I read said they were cheap in both price and quality. Do a search on this board and yahoo for PcChips and have fun reading.

The reviews I read were from actual users not a website. I think some of them were like cnet and the like. I was looking for an older board so most of the websites like THG don't have a review on it.

I've read quite a few forums and generally, it does hold much favour with quite a few complaints about the board about cheap and unrealiable, some of which I can relate to. I'm actually in the process of getting rid of mine because it doesnt like my GeForce 4 MX and Windows XP very much and it's flaky with Windows 98 SE yet they all work fine on my old MSI board with my Athlon 700.

PCChips themselves don't really have much in the way of support or FAQ's on their boards but these places are as good as your going to get on them.

Hope that helps!

I had a PCChips motherboard and it was terrible...my advice is to stay as far away as possible from them.

well, unfortunately it's too late to cancel the order. But I got a pretty good deal on the system, so I don't have a problem spending a few more bucks on a motherboard. The system I am getting has an AMD Duron 1.2. What would be a good, reliable, moderately priced mother board to get?

Well since you got it already, then try it out. Yes, it really sucks, but since you have it already, might as well try it another motherboard. Doesn't the company allow you to return the system? You, could just return it to them. Just curious, why did you get a duron? An Athlon XP1700 only costs $20 more and its performance way better. Anyway, did you get memory already? If I'm not mistaken, the PC Chips board only uses sdram. So your limited to a socket A board that uses sdram. The Asus A7A and the ECS K7S5A are both good choices, because they support both sdram and DDR. So you can upgrade to a Athlon XP and DDR Ram if you want to. The ECS is more common, the Asus might take some more time to find it.

Well, I got the PC from an ebay auction from a company that is selling barebones systems, so the Duron was my only option. Also, I was looking for a cheap system and this one fit the bill. I'll probably just use the PcChips for a while, until I start having problems. Because the more I read it seems like I definitley will have problems, it just a matter of when...

Yes this is old news. I found the info on a Danish site about 6 months ago and posted it. This is when everyone was having trouble with the ECS motherboards.
