[SOLVED] PC crashing consistently HELP!

Hi All,

In need of some urgent help with my custom built PC, i will try and lost a few of my specs below if it’s needed.

I built my PC about 5 years ago and it has been completely fine up until about 3 months ago, whilst playing games(mostly CoD warzone and World of warcraft) the game would drop frames for 5/10 seconds and then would go to what looked like a glitched version of the blue screen saying (there was a problem) and then switched off, so i just thought it was a random crash. Turned my PC back on and got to the desktop where my PC would be fine for 5 minutes then do the crash again, sometimes i wouldn’t even be in game. Obviously the computer was then unusable, i tried re-installing windows and graphics card drivers with no luck, sometimes computer would stay on for 30 minutes and sometimes only 2 minutes before crashing.

After some investigating i could see that my memory usage was sometimes reaching over 90%, so i bit the bullet and ordered a set of 2x 16gb RAM sticks and a new CPU(as they were both 5 years old) and to my knowledge this fixed the issue, as my memory usage was now in the 20-50% range depending on what i was doing and more importantly the crashing had stopped… or so i thought.

As of yesterday my PC begun crashing exactly the same as before, however it seems a lot worse, to the point i will be on the desktop for maximum of 5 minutes before it crashes, it then tried to automatically diagnose the issue and tells me to re-install windows which like i said before never helped.

I have changed the CPU and RAM out and im just wondering has anyone else has this kind of issue before as i’ve searched and searched and have had no luck, i’m no computer wizz i just know the basics which is probably why im struggling. HELP. Thanks

PC Specs:

- Windows 11 Pro 64-bit
- AMD Ryzen 7 5700X 8-Core (was Ryzen 5 3600x
-MSI Radeon 5700XT Graphics card

- Corsair Vengeance 2x16gb DDR4 3200mhz (was the same ram but 2x8gb before)
- EVGA 750GQ gold rated power supply

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

What BIOS version are you on? If you're able to remain in BIOS indefinitely, then it's your OS. Where did you source the installer for the OS?

MSI Radeon 5700XT Graphics card
Which MSI card do you exactly?

Hi There,

Thank you for your speedy reply, was not expecting a reply this quick.

- My GPU is MSI AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT MECH OC 8GB Graphics Card

- I got my windows install straight from windows. When you click to “Reset this PC” it allows you to download files to a flash drive and then i booted my PC through the BIOS on a flash drive.

- Also regarding the BIOS version, before i installed my new CPU i updated the BIOS to the newest version making sure to check the ASUS website to make sure the motherboard was compatible with my new CPU which it was.

The thing is it sometimes sits on desktop no problem and not crash, then i will boot into a game it lasts 5 minutes and then once it crashes once it goes into a crashing fit where it will crash, then start back up, then crash after 30 seconds, then crash, then it starts going through the diagnostic sequence which never works.

Im very stuck on what to do. I don’t want to just keeping buying new parts for it to then carry on, and im not good enough with computers to diagnose the issue myself.

Please state the BIOS version. If you go looking on the forums, you'll see how people state they're on the latest version only to realize they had or have BIOS versions pending an update.

You might want to source(borrow, not buy) a reliably build PSU and see if the issue persists.

Just booted my BIOS - states at bottom its “Version 2.20.1271”. However I downloaded and installed the Version 5404 off of ASUS, how comes these names do not allign?

So power supply can cause issues like that? It’s usually when i’m in game but when PC is loading up or trying to start a program will also crash then.

Well, it's mostly straight forward. But the need to do it is because 'just' a bios upgrade, doesn't ensure the bios has set correctly. It's the only way to rule out the bios being an issue.
Thats fair, even if the BIOS states the correct version it means that it may not have set correctly? The BIOS literally says Version 5404 which is the most up to date version.

ISSUE FOUND - Ended up being a fault with the M.2 ssd not transferring data correctly, this would cause PC to crash and reset, sometimes would reset in safe mode.

Just thought i’d post an update incase anyone has the same issue.
