Recently, my computer has been crashing without a BSOD.

The screen turns black and the audio becomes a long staticky monotone.

This crashes happened occasionally but are now happening all the time.

At first, they would occur when I tried to run games such as Civilisation 5 but now occur after a few minutes of use, such as casual browsing.

I'm not sure what course of actions to take and am fairly new when it comes to hardware issues.

Solution
Seems your PSU is a very good one, guess that's not the problem. If you have a friend willing to make a swap of video card for few days , it would be great. This way you could see if it is the video card defective ( which may be) or something else.
I did a swap with a friend, and untill now , none of us had a crash untill now. This is very odd.

L.E. You could monitor the temps, maybe something is overheating.
L.E.2 If i understood right, you should have 3 sticks of ram @ 2 Gb each .If so try to swap the sticks between them and if it does the same, try to put only one stick at a time and see if it continues to restart. Or if you have only one stick of 6Gb just change the slot.
What power supply do you have and what video card ? ( 6950 or 6970 or 6990 )
Something like this is happening to me only in games and i can't figure out what's the problem.

It's the 6950 and my PSU is the Corsair TX850M. It seems to be getting worse :X
