PC doesn't boot, unless PSU is reset

So, my problem is that my PC doesn't boot (by ''doesn't boot'', I mean it starts for a second, and then shuts off), unless I restart my OCZ GameXStream 750W PSU (I turn off the switch on the back of it, and then back on). It happens everytime, so I have to restart the PSU right before I use the PC.
Afterwards, there's no problem; PC works like a charm, even for many many hours without a glitch.

My brother, who gave me his PC, never had this problem before.

Could someone help me, please?

Well there's a no brainer...have you added any new components recently? Id assume your psu is on the verge of death but I don't know a whole lot about psu problems to begin with. I had the exact same issue on monday, only it never started up, always instant shut off.
Try pluging your pc in a different outlet based on a different fuse, maybe it's somehow a current issue with your socket.

It is possible to tell if it shuts off at a specific point in BIOS, then the problem would be related to that. Does it get pass memtest every tine? Do you have readyboost? etc etc

The main differences between a restart and a cold start is the CPU and ram test.

Sounds like the PS is not the problem, the highest power draw is usually not 3 seconds after you hit the button (there is a current spike <<1s after you hit the button, but not one second after). You can go into windows, run all your HDD, optical drives, CPU at 100%, etc, AT THE SAME TIME to see if your PS goes out...

No, I didn't have any new components installed. My bro, in fact, had this PC for over a year and didn't have this problem.

Here's my rig, by the way:
Athlon X2 6400+
Kingston DDR2 2GB Ram
750GB Seagate HDD 7200rpm
Asus EN8800GT 512mb
750W OCZ GameXStream

Hmm... don't know. I played COD: Modern Warfare 2 on the highest settings, for over 3 hours now, and didn't have any problem. So, I guess the PSU isn't the problem.

:pfff: PSU.

Whoops. 🙁 Apologies to eeastfan. I was overly focused on the hardware. ryan is correct.

Reset the BIOS back to factory defaults. Your motherboard manual will tell you how. If you do not have a manual, you should be able to download a copy from the manufacturer's website.

If you still have the problem, then you do have a not uncommon PSU problem.

hello there! i've experienced the same problem and found no solution till yesterday : ) !!!
i bought a new graphics card and the problem disappeared! download the latest driver for your graphics card.
if the problem persists , borrow a graphics card from a friend and make a test. if the problem is solved with your friend card you'll need a new for yourself.

this is my personal experience and might not solve your problem. but give it a try..

Would just like to say that we've found the problem.
The PSU was faulty (we tried to disconnect each component - graphics card, etc.-, but the problem was still there. As we put in another PSU, the problem was gone). Yes, as some users above have stated. I thank those.

I bought a 650W Antec Earthwatts and it works great now.

Thanks to everyone
