So very interesting. Here's my setup.
AMD Ryzen 9 5900x
AsRock ab350 pro 4
32gb ddr4 3200 gskill trident z
MSI Mech RX 6700xt
Corsair RMX 850
Vetroo v5 cooler with push pull
So this has all been running good previously. However, I did upgrade my monitor to a Gigabyte M32qc 1440p monitor last night, 165hz. Previously I was using a 1080p 144 hz display. Never had any issues at that resolution. Purchased the new Gotham Knights game and the Uncharted games from steam this weekend. Noticed I was having a slight buzzing noise but didn't think a lot about it. One thing that I guess should have been a clue for me however is that I do use a usb bluetooth key to connect to an xbox wireless controller. That would sometimes start disconnecting so I'd have to unplug it and plug into another port.
Then playing Uncharted, which it detected my pc should be able to run at 1440p ultra, game was running decently, and then got the controller disconnecting with some buzzing noises, and the game started slowing down and would kind of go in and out. In other words the game did not crash but began to run slowly after running well. The fact that I'm experiencing the buzzing and controller disconnects is a bit strange. I was actually able to exit the game normally and am now typing on the same PC without even needing to reboot. But it's almost as though either when too much load is being put on the gpu or motherboard that it's having issues. I'm wondering motherboard due to controller disconnects since I'm using a usb to bluetooth key that keeps flaking out which it never did before. Maybe the VRMs are getting too warm?
I've got an old wraith prism cooler left over that I did previously try with the 5900x and it had worked well. Going to see if installing that and trying to get a little air going across the VRMs helps. Any other ideas? It does seem to happen when the gpu is getting loaded up, but I would think a corsair RMX 850 watt that's only a year to year and 1 half old should not have issues powering a 6700xt?
Edit, in case it matters my board in the bios update to support the ryzen 5000 cpus did allow for smart access memory to be enabled so I did enable that. Is it possible that smart access memory is causing some of this?
Edit2-Started by disabling Smart Access Memory and it seems like the same game is running ok at high settings so will monitor it. HWMonitor does show the 6700xt running about 89 degrees with the game minimized so perhaps that's a clue. Had the system try to auto undervolt the card so temps seem to be more in check in game.
Edit3-After undervolting, the bluetooth disconnect issue started again. Perhaps VRMs are getting warm, because even if GPU is acting up, seems like the board would be what would be cutting power to the usb.
