PC Freezes on startup (Win10)

Hi,

I have the PC listed in my signature with Win10 installed. I don't exactly shutdown my computer every night, but I would say I restart or shut it down at least once every couple weeks. Yesterday I was having a weird issue with my PC where for some reason, in the bottom right hand corner of my screen, I couldn't click on anything...this was annoying for resizing windows, using the scroll bar in a browser, or even just not being able to move files on my desktop. It was a very strange issue so I decided to restart my computer.

The issue was fixed after the restart, except after about 5 seconds my PC completely froze, I couldn't do anything and had to do a hard shutdown. I assumed this was just a one time thing, wouldn't surprise me. However, it occured 2 - 3 more times after that, then I became suspicious. It now happens 100% of the time between 5 - 10 seconds of getting to the main desktop screen.

I tried disabling all the applications that automatically launch on startup, yet the problem persisted. It seems that it happens randomly, but if I open an application or one opens automatically, it happens even faster.

I started taking off important information that I needed with a USB drive and external HDD through safemode. Then I decided to uninstall my graphics driver. I uninstalled the driver (the latest nvidia driver 375.63), and with no driver installed, the PC launched fine. Then I decided to revert back to one of the somewhat older drivers (369.xx). And it worked! Then I went a bit newer to 372.70, and it worked again. Then I tried updating to 372.90, and it stopped working again. It just so happens that 372.90 is the latest driver required to play Battlefield 1 (which I play, and is the initial reason I even updated my drivers). There are 3 drivers that allow you to play Battlefield 1...372.90, 373.06, and 375.63. I started testing all of those drivers, because I wanted to be able to play Battlefield 1. None of them worked.

At this point I figured I was just going to have to wait for a new driver or a fix, so I decided to revert back to the older drivers...aaaaand none of them work anymore. No matter what graphics driver I use, I get the same results.

The only work around is this: If I restart my computer, it will freeze, so then I launch into safemode, uninstall the graphics driver, and then reboot normally. The PC launches fine without a graphics driver. Then I can reinstall whichever graphics driver I want, and the PC works fine, until I need to restart...rinse and repeat.

I'm glad that I am at least able to use my PC, however not being able to restart...and having to uninstall and reinstall graphics drivers every time is not very convenient. Any help is appreciated, maybe there's more people that have this issue.

Thanks!

I wanted to save reinstalling as a last resort. I had a spare GTX 660 Ti to test, and it seems to work perfectly fine with the latest drivers so, I guess I'll just use that for the time being. Must just be a weird issue with those particular GTX 960 drivers and my PC not getting along very well. Oh well, I've been meaning to upgrade anyways!

maybe your gpu is rma ? did you monitor temp of it ? you should probly do that and see what kinda temp your getting , msi afterburner is a good application to do that , reinstall windows might be a good idea but might not fix the problem , if I would be in your place I would first reinstall windows then check my temp , check the gpu and all the hardware physically to make sure there not burned area , and maybe try another gpu inside the pc , check the temp of the cpu (realtemp) and if everything seem good but still persist I would try to remove 1 ram stick , vice versa might be the ram , otherwise its probably you mobo or cpu , have you been overclocking ?
