PC freezing for random times

Hello guys, so basically a technician came over to my house, he tried to fix my computer, he check the wires, the ram the voltage and for virus and nothing still, he told me it was just that i needed to install bios and thats it. so now guys it worked fine yesterday and today it starts going bad again. can anybody tell me what to do next? maybe i didnt update something else apart from bios? or there may be a program i can run to tell me why my pc freezes? anything please!!!!!

random stuff, it can be playing a game, surfing the internet or plain idle

8gb of ram
gtx 760 windforce

Well... was the power supply by any chance tested by the same technician that told you just to update your BIOS and everything would be OK and it's not?

If the answer to the above question is yes, then I would strongly consider you get a second opinion on that.

What model / wattage is your power supply?

If the tech suggested a BIOS updated did he give you a reason, or was it a stab in the dark?

well he kinda came up with that idea because i never updated it and it was since i format my pc. my power supply is a super flower amp 1000r14HE, its 970W

Well super flower make some decent power supplies, also that is serious amount of wattage so I wouldn't think the power supply is at fault. However... you can never be 100%, how old is the power supply?

When you say your system freezes, do you mean you get a blue screen of death or a crash... or do you mean it stops responding. If it stops responding does the mouse still move?

everything stops working, takes a long time for things to responde, programs dont open (they open after it unfreezes) and mouse moves perfectly fine but sometimes it just freezes aswell, and after that everything goes back to normal as if nothing ever happened

ok, sounds more like a software issue than a hardware issue to be honest. The only hardware issue that might point to is a hard drive with bad sectors, have you run a full hard drive diagnostic on the machine?

If that doesn't return any errors then you need to look at software really. Start with checking you have all the correct / latest drivers loaded. Then uninstall anything you don't need. Look at what processes are running on the machine and google any suspicious ones. Run a virus scan and a malware scan using something like malwarebytes.

the technician did a sector check but it was a really fast one, took like 2 minutes so i dont know if that what you can a full diagnostic, it just turned green squares on the screen. he checked the processed and it was fine, and also did a full antivirus check. so the only problem is to install in drivers and stuff. is there any program i can download to tell me whats outdated? or maybe you could tell me what parts of the pc to check for updates?

I wouldn't install any 3rd party programs no. Check device manager and make sure there are no unidentified pieces of hardware, or any hardware in error. Check the main pieces of hardware are identified correctly. IE do you have Realtek audio onboard but it's just detected as HD audio?

The easy drivers to update are things like the motherboard, graphics card as you can visit the manufacturers websites and download the latest drivers.

A full hard drive diagnostic can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on the size of the disk so it would be worth running a full diagnostic. It would be the first thing I would check. If you check the manufacturers website (ie western digital / Seagate) they will have a downloadable program that you can run at boot time to check your drive.

Can you try doing a clean boot of your system to disable third party start up softwares and services which may be conflicting.
