Hey guys,

So my PC has had this problem for a while now. It's a desktop, I built it myself a couple of years ago. Randomly, my PC will freeze, causing the screens to freeze, my oscillating LED keyboard to stop oscillating, and any sound to just become a screeching loop sound. After about 30 seconds or so, it just turns off.

I have had a blue screen problem, but this was long ago, and I have not had a blue screen since this new problem started so I believe they are unrelated. When freezing, my PC has only been able to recover itself once out of the many times it does it, and after recovering a notification popped up saying "Windows encountered an error with your graphics card, and has recovered." I have reinstalled all drivers and cleaned out the inside of my PC, re-seating the GPU.

My PC has varying times of use, ranging from hours and hours of use to under 30 minutes of use before it freezes. Here are my specs:

Operating System: Windows 10
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 5870 4GB
CPU: AMD FX-8320 8-Core @ 3.5GHz
8 GB HyperX RAM

It was originally built with Windows 7, upgraded to Windows 10. GPU and RAM are hand-me-downs.

If you guys have any insight, that would be great!

Thank you!

Have you overclocking the GPU, CPU, Ram or whatever?

It seems that the Pc is slightly unestable, i usually get it due an overclock or in the case of the GPU at it seems its you case it could be also a bad PSU that give power spikes and cause inestability on the graphic card.

In regards to what juanrdp said earlier, the most likely cause is your PSU spiking and causing your PC stall. But that all depends on the wattage of your PSU. What make and wattage is your PSU?

I believe it is 800W, it is a nice PSU
