(For the record, I'm not sure if this is the correct forum)

Hey guys, got a few questions.

For example, I have a laptop and another desktop pc that has the same exact things on it, they're just different machines.

1. Say I open a uPlay game on my desktop pc, for this example, I'll use Rainbow Six Siege. If I were to say change a setting like mouse sens, key binds, or graphical settings, will the settings also change on the laptop or will the settings also change on my other pc?

Another thing to note is that I bought R6 through steam and I use Uplay to play it. Will, that effect anything?

2. Same exact question as above but instead for Steam games like GTA V or PUBG, if I change settings like mouse sensor or any other graphical settings, will settings change as well on the other device?

Thanks all.

EDIT: say that question number 2 isn't true and doesn't work, do the config files of the games contain all the settings, like graphical settings or keybind settings?

Solution
Yeah, games with their own folders in my documents will have configs for graphics and key bindings in those. Valve based games like csgo, their configs will be in steam apps.

There's a few ways to copy them.

Copy what you want to a laptop

Use an external hdd

Or copy them off the hdds directly after installing windows. If you do it this way, before installing windows, disconnect all other drives to prevent windows from installing boot loader on them. That way after you copy back your games and format the hdds your windows will still boot as the boot loader is on the main drive.
1) No, In-game settings are different for different machines. Even if they were the same, you wouldn't feel them the same because of different hardware. Just customize whichever is comfortable.

2) ~ You can copy the config files, they contain the settings. But it's stored in a different way for different games.

Do you know where I'm able to find the config files for my steam games and uplay games?

And I will be using the same exact pc, just need to install HDDs and a new m.2 nvme drive. It's better to just DBAN the hard drives and start fresh. It'll act like a new pc, but it'll be my old one with "fresh drives"

config files for most games from steam can be found in my documents folder or my documents/my games folder.

Will still need to let the game create those folders again and then copy/replace the contents. Be easier that way so can keep track which games were where instead of writing it down since you'll just go looking for the folder.

As for uplay, i haven't bought games directly from them so not sure where uplay puts their game configs, might be the same place Steam puts em.

ok so the config files contain everything like key bindings and graphic settings right?

assuming it does, are there multiple files that contain the config files and if so, how do I get them into my new pc where i want my old games to be with the same exact settings as the one on my old pc
