I've had a problem going on for a while, but now it's critical. For the last few months my PC would take a few, then later several tries to get it to post after shutting it down for the night. My solution for the last month as been to leave it running all the time. Well.... I went for a while this evening and my wife turned off the PC because she said it was too loud. Now the thing won't post no matter how many times I try. I've reset the RAM, cleared the CMOS, unplugged the reset switch, but to no avail. The CPU fan is spinning fine. The MOBO doesn't have speaker (and from what I can tell no place to plug one in) to get beeps. I'm at a loss here. Can somebody give me some help please?

My system is listed in my signature.

Thanks.

Hmm, just realized - mix-match RAM; generally NEVER a good idea. Next, ONLY use Certified RAM per Gigabyte or Tested RAM per RAM Mfg site. The reason I didn't go down the RAM verification is because I ass-u-me-d the rig function fine and then suddenly - POOF!

Gigabyte Certified - http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2629#memory%20support%20list

Tested {Kingston} RAM - http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/configurator_new/modelsinfo.asp?SysID=40789&mfr=Gigabyte&model=GA&search_type=&root=us&LinkBack=http://www.kingston.com&Sys=40789-Gigabyte-GA-P35-DS3L+Motherboard&distributor=0&submit1=Search

Mix-Match RAM example {use the WORST of each}:

800 5-5-5-18 @ 1.5V** {may have 4-4-4-18 @ 600 MHz}
600 4-4-4-16 @ 1.3V
===============
600 5-5-5-18 @ 1.4V

Never mix DDR with DDR2 or SS with DS or ECC with non-ECC.

Who used mix-matched RAM? When I was using Crucial, it was a dual channel set and when I used the Kingston it was a single stick. And, I agree, after the system worked find for over 2 years, who would have thought both sticks of Crucial would slowly fail.

It's funny, I went ahead and ordered 4GB of Kingston RAM today (always had good luck with them). Then, for fun I contacted Crucial about my issue. I just got an email from Crucial and they're going to RMA the bad RAM. Now I'll have RAM I don't have a place for!

After reading your post I had every intention of selling the replacement RAM on Ebay. I went to Newegg to get a feel for the fair price to sell these sticks. After looking at the reviews (something like 2 eggs for 128 reviews), I don't think I can sell them in good conscience. This RAM consistently fails after a period of time. They sent me a RMA number, but I don't think I'll use it. It wouldn't be right to put somebody else through the b.s. I had to go through to troubleshoot my system. You gotta do the right thing in life. In this case, the right thing is to throw my old sticks in the garbage and not get new ones from them to sell. I'll go back to Kingston, which I've always used in the past.
