So this is a problem I've had before, thought it was resolved, but still continues. Upon beginning any video game with heavy graphics (ie once the map loads), my PC hard resets. No blue screen, no freeze, just restarts back to boot screen.
Typically, this would be attributed to be a PSU issue, and a few years ago I upgraded to a SENTEY ERP750-PM Modular Power Supply 750W the last time this happened. 750w should be enough power.
Also in these forums I saw that temp can be a culprit. Running Core Temp displayed a temp typically between 42c and 52c up to the point of failure, well below the high risk areas.
Not sure what else to do. Any suggestions? Thanks!
I have not overclocked my system... I'm not very experienced with overclocking, so have not touched it!
clear/re-install all the drivers and re-flash the bios anyway to be safe.
run task manager / hw monitor / gpu-z before and after to see any changes, with how the hardware is being used.
I have read that indeed video drivers can cause problems like this, too. I'm a bit green when it comes to this stuff.
However, I ran furmark and the temp to get an event log and the test was running well over 70c, so I'm starting to think that's the problem
I'm beginning to wonder about the nvidia drivers myself.
I recently got a couple updated drivers for my GTX 960 card from MSI. I do a lot of video rendering and encoding with Sony Vegas and Handbrake.
I recently have been getting hard resets, full screen freezes, and blue scscreen of death when converting video.
If you're not familiar with handbrake, it's a VERY heavy Cpu hog. I have the AMD FX 8 core @ 4.0 ghz, and handbrake runs all 8 cores at 99 to 100% the entire time it encodes video. The hottest my cpu I gets when running at full load for almost 40 minuets is 40 degrees Celsius. Akron idle our doing simple tasks, it's running 14 to 20 Celsius. So it's not an overheating issue.
Recently, I have been covering video, sometimes it runs great for several hours, sometimes it freezes, hard resets, our blue screens within 2 minuets. My blue screen error report said the cause was a hal.dll driver. I'm assuming it's the nvidia driver. It's been a problem with people in the past few months...
