Question PC hasn't been working for a month ?

It's been nearly a month since my PC stopped working. When I turned the system on, it would rarely make its way to the ASRock screen and if it did, it wouldn't move past it. Usually, I'd get a "No Signal" pop-up on the screen even though the system was running. When I would try to turn it off with the power button it would not work. Trying the reset button also doesn't work and the only way to turn off the system is to hit the switch.

I'm just a hobbyist, if even that, so I asked a qualified friend for help and they suggested the PSU since the one I had was old (It was a Corsair 600CX) and probably could not hold the load of my components. Well I finally found time to replace it and nothing changed when I finished. I switched out my card, tried again, and got nothing (I also tore a cord on my 1070 in the process). At this point, I think it's a motherboard issue but that's 200$ I don't want to spend. So if anyone can, please help!!!

Yes. There are multiple different types of connections from the case front panel power, reset and I/O (USB, headphones, microphone, etc.) that can fail and cause issues, so in cases where you cannot turn the system off using the front panel power button it is always a good idea to eliminate ALL of those connections by disconnecting them and using the pwr pins on the motherboard to jump start the system on and off.

Are you saying that if you choose "Restart" or "Shut down" from the Windows start menu, the system won't do either of those things, or that when you try to shut down or restart using the power and reset buttons on the case it won't work? Or both? In any case, unplugging all those front panel connections and jumping the board will eliminate any chance it's due to faulty electronics or switches on the case itself. After that it becomes much more likely that it is either a motherboard or PSU issue and since you've already replaced the power supply with a very good model we know it isn't that.

There is no Windows menu; my monitor always says no signal but the system is on. And trying to turn the system off or reset with the buttons on the case dont work

Ok, I see. You are not even getting a POST or BIOS screen, at all, right?

What was the original graphics card you had installed? What is the graphics card you have installed now and where did it come from? Was it new or used?

Are you absolutely certain that when you changed the graphics card you plugged your display cable back into the graphics card, and not one of the motherboard video outputs?

And that you reconnected the PCIe auxiliary power connections to the graphics card from the power supply, when you replaced that?

And the 4+4 EPS/CPU power plugs along the top edge of the motherboard in addition to the 24 pin ATX motherboard connector?

And you are saying that without ANY wires coming from the front of the case, at ALL, plugged into the motherboard, when you jump the pwr+ and pwr- pins on the motherboard with a small flat tip screwdriver, the system DOES turn on, but when you do the same thing again it does not turn off? Or did you even try that?

1. Yeah, there is no POST or BIOS screen.
2. The original GPU was my 1070, and I swapped it out for my 1050ti. I bought my 1070 used in 2021 and my 1050ti new in 2017.
3. Positive.
4. I'm using the PCIe connector.
5. CPU and 24 pin are both plugged in.
6. Yeah.

At this point I think its the motherboard

This board is very decent and only half the price you suggested. It will also give you some features not found on your B450 chipset. The Pro4 line from ASRock is pretty good for a budget board but the bottom line is that budget models sometimes DO lack the quality of higher end offerings so in some cases they might not last as long. If your board is less than three years old then it is still under warranty. If not, then this would be a good alternative replacement that in fact will also work fine if you decide to upgrade to any other Ryzen CPU up to the 5000 series down the road.

If you want to spend a little more, 150 bucks will get you a MUCH better board.

Uh if you have a suggestion for a 150$ board, I'll take it. And also would you suggest getting a new video card or a secondhand one?

New. Used graphics cards are very problematic, in probably more than 50% of cases, so you are rolling the dice on the idea that you have good luck when you buy one. And besides which, on top of the probability that it is a card that has been rode hard for crypto mining, which most of them are, even if it wasn't it will still have been used by somebody for gaming and they are selling it most of the time for some reason other than they just bought a newer one. Plus, there are no warranties, at all, on ANY used graphics card where you are not the original purchaser. New, you get full warranty and no question that the card has never been abused by somebody before. Some hardware I'd buy used, like CPUs and memory, if the price is good. Motherboards, storage devices and graphics cards, I would never, ever buy used unless it was from somebody I personally know and trust.

This is a very good board for the price.

Alright thanks. Last question; should I get a replacement 1070 or upgrade to a 1080 or 20 series cuz at this point I'm gonna have to spend money no matter what.

Well, to me that just looks like one of the wires going from the board to the fans broke. I'd think that could pretty easily be fixed. If not by you if you don't feel capable of doing it then surely by any reputable electronics repair shop. I doubt it would cost very much but then again I don't know the history of this card AND it is rather outdated at this point so that's your call.

If you would just prefer to replace it (And then maybe fix it as a backup or sell it to recoup your investment on a new card, which if that is all that's wrong with it I'm sure there are some who would be interested) then let me know what you could afford to throw at a new video card and I'll make you a recommendation on the best bang for the buck options. If you have any hard preferences between Nvidia and AMD it would be good to know that as well PLUS what the model of your case is so I'll know what size card it will accommodate.

The best I could do is probably 200$? I prefer NVIDIA over AMD but I don't know anything about the market so if AMD has an equivalent for cheaper I'd take it. My case is the Core X71 Tempered Glass Edition from Thermaltake.

Ok then. Then in that case, if 200 bucks is your budget for a card, this is the card that I would recommend because it has absolutely the best performance of any card under 200 bucks at 1080p. Now, if you want something that is going to do well with a higher resolution that that, then you want to just use what you have for now, save some more money and ask this question on the graphics card later when you have a more substantial budget.

And even this is going to require you to spend a little more than 200 bucks, but it's worth it. This is THE best card you are going to find for 1080p gaming at the ABSOLUTE lowest price that any of the cards even close to this one go for, without going more like 3 bones or higher. This even beats the RX 7600 in basically everything and I've looked at this a lot. There is no better option at or near this price range that I am aware of. This will outperform your GTX 1070 in almost everything by about 25%.

I think the 6650xt back slightly. Turn the settings up higher on graphics should help some of that though. The good news is that a cpu like even the ryzen 5 3600 is a bit better and can be found for about 80 dollars used and put into your existing board. Though I’d consider saving up and getting a 5600/5600x. I want to say those should run 140-150, and you would be able to resell your 2600.

So I say for 200 go for it then start saving a bit. Once you get a stronger cpu that will help your fps go up. The card will help with the level of detail though.

The graphics card isn't going to bottleneck the CPU. If anything the CPU is going to hold the graphics card back a bit, so like ohio_buckeye indicated you'd be fine for now but swapping in a newer CPU would definitely help if you wanted to do that at some point.

Personally, I like the 5600G which only barely falls below the 5600x in performance and can be bought new for 125 bucks or you can usually find them used on Ebay between 50-80 dollars. It has about 20% better single core and 10-15% better multithreaded performance than the Ryzen 5 3600. It has about a 25% and 30% single and multithreaded bump over the 2600x.
