Hey guys! Recently I tried to upgrade to Intel. It went terribly wrong, so I returned the Intel items and switched back to good old AMD. Anyways I did a fresh install of Windows 8.1 Pro on a 1TB WD Blue. Everything went fine but I noticed only 930GB of the 1Tb drive was available. 70GB missing on a Blank drive? I installed Windows anyways downloaded all updated drivers etc.. So the next day I boot it up and, right after the the bios screen it shuts off for literally 1 second. All fans leds turn off for that 1 second, but it turns back on and boots into windows no problem. I got a message from windows saying my hard drive is messed up? So I let it Scan and repair the drive. It still shuts off for that 1 second and turns back on. I'm not sure what to-do! Did Intel mess up my HDD or am I just dumb and messed it up myself? Please any suggestions would help out a lot!

The 930 part is normal because hard drive makers define units of 1000 while Windows(and at one point other operating systems) use 1024.

Incoming math.
1000202039296 bytes / 1024 to get kilobytes
976759804 kilobytes /1024 to get megabytes
953866.99609375 megabytes /1024 to get gigabytes
931.5107383728027 gigabytes.

The total bytes DOES vary from one drive maker to another and from one line to another.

What kind of error did windows say the drive has?

Can you run CrystalDiskInfo to check the status please.

Your reallocated is 0 so as long as pending are also at 0 I do not think it is a drive issue.

Chances are Windows just wanted to run a check on the file system. Sometimes this happens when adding a drive to a system as well.

Example image you can see the pending should be at 0 as well. Ignore my gsense

If its not a drive issue, what could make it shutoff then back on?

Your drive looks to be ok.

The single instance of an End to End error is something to keep an eye on from time to time.

A problem like that on boot(start - off - start normal) happens on some systems that are overclocked. It has never caused an issue when I saw it. Is your system running any custom bios settings?

I didn't mean to make this solved. Anyway to undo that? Yes I am running custom bios settings. FX 6300 @ 4.4Ghz. So loaded optimized defaults in bios, but it still powers on and off with stock settings?

I have removed the solution selection for you.

I would ensure you are running the latest version of your boards bios. Some of them change settings on startup that require a restart. Again, I have only seen it with overclocked systems, but with such a large number of systems on the market it could be normal for some configurations.

It may be worth adding your board model to the title to see if users of the same board take more notice.

Please keep us updated.

Thank you for your time! My bios is the newest one. When it turns off/on again that wont hurt any components? I could live with it, but I don't want it surging my hardware.
