PC is acting weird and smells?

I walked away from my pc while I had a game up for a few minutes, came back and notice my screen off but it refused to come back on. Then while I was trying to figure out what might have caused this, I noticed a smell of something burning, unplugged my pc and was ready with an extinguisher for the worst, but no signs of smoke coming out of anything and the smell has worn off. Any idea on what might be the issue, or how to troubleshoot without making things worse?

imo, it sounds like your mobo or cpu have fried lol, but best thing to do is try a new psu, if not that try your cpu in a different motherboard if your cpu works then its your mobo.

Your PSU would be my first suspect.

If it smelled acidic, not of burning, It will be a blown Capacitor.

Almost always in the PSU, but occasionally on the Mobo.
If you can, borrow a PSU to check that replacing it fixes the issue.
Visually check the Mobo for anything that looks odd.

Cross your fingers and hope it failed safe and didn't damage anything.
