PC is bluescreening/HDD crashing.. Desperate for help.

I don't know where else to ask, I've had issues for months now and I'm going absolutely crazy without my PC..

It first started when I opened up my PC and put in another graphics card, but I made the mistake of wearing wool fingerless gloves as I did this, and I'm afraid I might have given off a static shock to the motherboard.


My PC would either seemingly shut down due to a HDD error, or bluescreen whenever it got too 'excited'.


I swapped the graphics cards again, still same issue.. Reformatted, same issue.. I swapped motherboards, it worked for a few days (I used an old motherboard I had laying around, same one as I had put in currently) and then it broke again.

I took it to a store to fix it, they said they had no idea what it was.

Now, I have a few possiblities, but I need to be sure which one it is, as I don't have the funds to replace everything..

Etiher my motherboard is broken, one of my harddrives is broken, I may need to put new cooling gel on the CPU (as I did have to take it off to swap motherboard) or I don't know what.. I really hope you can help.

So what I did was apply cooling paste, check if it was the CMOS battery which it wasn't, took out my faulty HDD and my PC ran smooth, even better than before for two weeks.. Now today I've had two random crashes.

I really hope it's a Software thing so I did in fact fix it.. I disabled updates due to updates constantly failing to install on my PC and it undoing them (that was two weeks ago, when I just reformatted it and it did that three days in a row)


Edit: (One day later)

I managed to finally get past the undoing updates for /now/ .. And now my PC is running incredibly hot again after the Windows updates, and my games are laggier. It feels like it's in the state it was in when my problem originally started. can Windows Updates really do this?

It's not the CMOS, I've attempte to replace it with my own old one and a friends, and that is not the issue. I doubt too much paste can prevent Windows from starting without bluescreen.

It does nothing, repeatedly looking at it all though I can see one HDD is definately busted. I took it out, and when I'm home (at my GFs) I'll use my Windows USB to reinstall, as my CD is being annoying and not working again. Though I doubt this is the issue to my previous problem. I'll update you guys when I'm home.

yeah be careful with it you know you mentioned that screeching sound when the cpu fan was off i think he could have fried his processor because thats what it sounds like when they fry and that also would explain its last blue screen and no boot after it i suggest leaving it off for a while and letting everything cool and when you get home double check everything and then try and boot

Honestly I haven't seen a fried processor in a very long time. Last one was an AMD that had no protection; all current processors are protected and they shut down if need be. If the CPU was removed, then a pin could possibly be bent and that could explain the issue.

yeah that would explain it but you have to remember a cpu screeching isnt exactly normal haha so if any damage was done even a tiny section was damaged it is enough to kill a cpu

You mean the crash has occurred for 3 days? It most likely is because AMD drivers need to be updated or you are missing important Windows updates.

(It happened twice yesterday, the 3 days I had the update problems was 2 weeks ago ) I now am trying to update my Windows updates, but as before it fails to update and is undoing updates.. Untill I have to reboot my PC (which I hate during this screen).

Did you check the hard disk with Seatools?

Windows Updates can't do it. What are the thermal margins at full load according to AMD Overdrive? Can you post a picture here?

It seems to be stopped now that I updated my drivers.. Fixed for now. Tyvm
