Question PC is running slower all of a sudden ?

Hi,
As the title says, my pc is running slower since a couple of days, be it opening a firefox tab, file manager or unzipping files.
It's a new pc I build a month ago with the following spec:

MBD: Gigabyte Z790 AORUS ELITE AX
CPU: i9-14900KF
GPU: Nvidia RTX 4070-S
SSD: WD Black SN850X M.2 2TB
RAM: Crucial 16GB x 4
OS: Win 10 Pro 64-bit

Since I'm a layman, I don't really know what the problem could be. Reboots didn't help, task manager doesn't show any excessive usage of cpu, gpu or ram, and a virus scan says the system is clean. I also didn't install any software before that and my drivers/os are up-to-date.

I'd be gratefull for any help or suggestion!

You haven't mentioned any detailed figures about CPU speeds, XMP settings, etc and I presume you haven't run any benchmark or stress programs.

Similarly, we've no idea what your CPU cooling solution is (air or water). If the cooler is malfunctioning, the CPU might get hot and start to throttle.

There's no mention of your PSU - a critical component. Is it new or old, high quality or junk?

If the problem is Windows based, you might have picked up a virus (unlikely).

Easiest way to see if Windows is at fault is to perform a fresh Windows install on a cheap SATA or M.2 drive with your current Windows drive (and any other drives) unplugged.

Thanks for your reply and pointing out what I didn't mention.

Task manager is giving me a CPU speed of 0,79GHz at 1% usage though the base speed is said to be 3,2GHz.
XMP setting are DDR5-6000 36-38-38-80-1,350.
The CPU is air cooled with a Noctua NH-D15 G2, the MB shows a temp of 27°C.
The PSU is also new, its a Seasonic GX-850.

I ran a Userbenchmark with following results: UserBenchmark, and if I interpret the results correctly, does my CPU have a problem?

The CPU is severely throttling! What are your CPU temps? What cooler do you have?

I have a Noctua NH-D15 G2, and the CPU temps I have are from the MB sensors, showing me 25°C for the CPU, which I can more or less confirm by touching the heat pipes of the cooler and the backside of the MB.

From what I could glance on the web during work, it seems to be a known problem for Intel CPUs to be throttled at 0,8GHz. I just came home so I will look into it tomorrow.

what are you using to measure the temperature ( bios doesnt count)

you can also remove the cmos battery and replace it with a new 2032 battery. and see if the battery has gone in the motherboard and it will also reset your settings.

that cpu personally should be under a aio otherwise it needs voltage locked down.

make sure bios is updated to latest as these cpus have a defect. that was addressed in a bios patch due to to much voltage being applied. and potentially contaminated cpus causing premature failure.

For the temperature I'm using the MB software Gigabyte control center. I don't know how accurate it is and if you would recommend something else, but through the touch those values seems ok.

I updated the BIOS early on, as I read about the voltage issues those CPUs had as well about the corroding problems, but didn't intel recalled those affected?

I'll try replacing the cmos battery and tell you if it helped. As for the voltage, what min/max voltage would you recommend?
