PC isn't showing on my monitor?

I just got finished building my new PC and I plugged it into the outlet, all of the fans spin and the lights show up, but when I plug it into my monitor it searchs for a device (AutoDetect) and then just goes to powersaving mode.
I haven't installed drivers because of this. Although i haven't tried windows.

Do i need to put the windows disc in first?

Anything is greatly appreciated.

Check your video cable is connected to the correct video source (GPU or Onboard graphics)

The monitor doesn't need Windows disc to display, you need the display to initiate the install process.
