PC just went off, now red CPU LED and no POST

Hey folks,

today I ran into a problem with my pc. A few minutes after I've started up the pc, it just went off. No shut down screen, nothing. Just instantly. I tried to turn it on again, but all I got was a solid red CPU LED and no post whatsoever. I already looked up some stuff and also tried a few of them. I tried a CMOS reset, checked all power cables and the CPU pins. Everything looked just fine. The build is quite new, but it ran perfectly until now. I had no problems with it. I don't really understand what could've caused this. I have overclocked the 6800k on 4.2 Ghz with about 1.225 V I think. But temperatures never even came above 70°C.

Specs:

MB: Asus X99 Strix
CPU: i7 6800k
RAM: 4x4GB Kingston HyperX Predator 2133Mhz
GPU: Asus Strix gtx 1070 oc
PSU: Cooler Master V750

I am watercooling the CPU with a Alphacool Eisbaer 360. It's some kind of sealed kit.

Motherboard has 1 x Clear CMOS jumper. The usual procedure to do when overclock failed is to clear CMOS and load default BIOS settings in order for the PC to boot.

With Asus boards as you know there are, or should be many Led lights red in colour to indicate there is a problem with a set component connected to the motherboard for easy fault diagnosis.

Any that is lit, as you know Turret_fx is specific to that bit of hardware connected to the motherboard.

From the Cpu to The pci-e graphics card, system memory and the boot device that windows os is installed on.

The red light for the cpu when lit means for the main part.

That there is or can be a problem with the power from the eight pin 12v E-atx or Eps connector on the motherboard from the power supply unit.

I would check it is firmly seated, connected from the Psu of your system to the connector on the motherboard.
Try removing it, then slotting the connector back into the boards connector block first.

If it fails, and the red cpu led still stays on when the power button is pressed on the system case.
Your next step should be if you can to try the system with another power supply connected to it of the same wattage output or close enough to power the system adequately Turret.

To rule out the PSU as the cause of the red cpu led light lit on your motherboard.

The obvious conclusion then would be the board it`s self and down to power distribution failure on the motherboard.
Or that cpu in the cpu socket as failed in some way.

For power problems it`s always best to start from the key component that delivers the power being the Psu, and it`s connection for power to your motherboard first of all.

First of all thanks for the huge amount of information.
Unfortunatly I already tried to unplug and plug back the 12v 8 pin connector and I checked that it sits correctly. Still dead.
Also I don't have any alternative components to check if it's the motherboard, cpu or psu that fails...

I don't really know how to proceed now. I have nothing to make sure it's component A, B or C that is broken.

Answer was given... No magic formula... start with the PSU. If you can't swap, then go to repair shop or visit a friend to swap. You could also take the risk and buy a new one. Not much more options i am afraid.
