Ok so I just built a $500-550 ish budget pc and I thought all the parts were fine together but whenever I start to play some demanding games like Fortnite, some time in my pc crashes. My screen freezes completely and my audio starts messing up. I’ve had this issue for a while and I need some help please. I thought it was an overheating issue for a while but when I was playing and my pc crashed the temperature wasn’t that high so now I’m utterly confused as to how to fix it. This issue has caused me to lose around 3-4 top 2 situations and it’s been happening ever since I built my pc. Someone please help!

Fingers crossed. If the problem was your old RAM and/or/both old motherboard and you bought them only 3 months ago, check the return policy of the store and then check the manufacturers' warranty info on their websites. You may get a partial refund, depending on what you find out. Good luck!

I'd keep playing fortnite with the new hardware for at least a week or longer.

At this point I think it would be best to try some different RAM.

Make sure to get something that you can return if it doesn't help.

Also, make sure to get something on the QVL for that board/cpu combo. I've had good luck with G.Skill and Corsair.

I believe this is the list for you:

What I find similar is that whenever I play Fortnite and I do the memtest it seems like the same thing happens like it glitches the mouse first but keeps it moving for a bit before completely freezing. I’m pretty sure it’s something to do with my ram at this point but I don’t know if it’s that the ram is bad or if the motherboard just isn’t doing well with it or what. I need help please it’s been 3 months and I know it’s kind of late to try and fix this now but I thought the issue would have resolved itself after I got another stick of ram. I am so frustrated that I don’t know what to do.

I know it sucks, I've been in a similar situation.

Unfortunately, with this kind of issue your only option is to swap parts out to see which one is causing the problem.

At this point it could be the RAM, the motherboard, or even the CPU. RAM is the most likely culprit, so I'd try it first.

Technically yes, that exact RAM isn't listed, but that is because you bought it as a single stick, and not as a kit.

Your model HX 4 24 C15 F B /4 stands for:
"HyperX - DDR4 - 2400 speed - CAS latency 15 - series F - Black - total kit size of 4GB

The one listed in the QVL is HX424C15FBK4/16 is the same thing, but the "K4" means "a kit of 4 dimms" and "/16" stands for "a total of kit size of 16GB"

So the QVL is saying that if you bought a kit of 4 together of your dimms, then it is considered "tested"

So no, the exact model isn't there, but the individual sticks *should* work. However, since you are having trouble I'm not willing to count out the possibility that 4 sticks sold/installed together could have some different behavior than one stick.

That's why I would try something from a different manufacturer, and make sure the exact kit is listed in the QVL.

At my nearest Best Buy they are selling Corsair ram but the model isn’t on the QVL but I’ll probably buy a stick to test and return it if it doesn’t work and do the same with the motherboard. I’ll see what I can do and get back when I figure something out

I personally hate corsair ram, gotten it DOA many times. Up to you what brand you choose though. Your other results are definitely possible with failing / dying ram. You might pass a test once, even twice and then have it fail multiple times in a row as well as the crashing and freezing. I really would test a different ram kit if you could, because this all sounds like memory issues. Your other hardware seems fine because you're able to go into games and have them perform for a while before what sounds like the RAM failing over and over from bad sectors. Try a new ram kit and if you get the same problems, then sadly it might be the mobo. At this point I would not continue to use that kit of ram unless you could test it with another system, but it 100% sounds like your ram was either bad from the get go or starting to fail entirely.

The AMD APU that you have really benefits from faster RAM. And two sticks will enable dual channel, which is a big performance gain as well.

I know that price, shipping time, not knowing for sure if new RAM will fix the problem are all factors here. However, if that were my system, and I were buying RAM for it, I would go with the fastest two stick G.Skill kit that I was willing to pay for. Probably something in the 2933 or 3200 range.

Ryzen is super picky about RAM. If you look at that QVL you'll notice that a lot of the RAM isn't supported running at the speed that the manufacturer tested it at and based the XMP settings on. However, I've seen plenty of people get RAM on the QVL and have no trouble at all with Ryzen APUs.

Ok so I don’t know if this is a permanent solution but I picked up a new motherboard a B350 Tomahawk by MSi and Fortnite has been going pretty well so far but I’ll keep testing and see if this continues.

That's great!

Let us know how it goes :)

I just looked up that motherboard's RAM support. It specifically supports one or two sticks of the exact model RAM that you have :)

Ok yep I no crashes and it’s been about a week I think that’s the solution :) So happy that I finally got past this problem and it thanks to everyone who stayed along the way and joined later on it really helped thanks a bunch!
