Hi,

I built my pc with the following components about a month ago and have started having some stability issues.

Gigabyte gaz68ap-d3
I5 2500k
Corsair Vengance 8GB
250g Seagate HDD (temporary)

and in the process of getting a GPU so havent been gaming much, just watching films and browsing.

it has worked fine for the last month and have been able to even play some games such as Aion on mid settings with no issues. But over the last few days it seems to randomly die and not let me restart for 5-15 or so minutes. Seems at first glance as if im overheating the CPU but non of i what i have been doing would do this? Im running everything at stock speeds by the way.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks

I would run hw monitor. ASAP. You dont want to fry your cpu. Did you install the CPU correctly using to little or to much thermal paste? Also check to make sure the heatsink is properly clipped in.

Check your power supply. I had a fan go out in a good quality power supply that caused the power supply to overheat and shut down and would not come back on until it cooled down. I replaced the fan, and it works fine now. Is your power supply overheating?

The PSU im using is the CM GX 650w...

its confusing though because, last night for example, i fell asleep with a tv series on shuffle which was still playing when i woke up... so surely if it was a psu issue it should have died then?

Hmmm, that PSU was summarized by HardOCP in their review as a "polished turd in a box," but still your system should not be applying any stress at all. It does sound like an overheating and/or PSU problem.

well i picked the PSU as for that price range it had decent reviews on sites such as techpowerup aha...
its definitely not an overheating issue so think i will get onto coolermaster about it as it has the 5 year warranty

Is your case top mount power supply or bottom mount? Used to have similar trouble with older top mount power supplies. The quick fix was to mount a cooling fan directly under the power supply to pull air under it and out of the case. After that, troubles would usually vanish.

The specs on the CM GX 650 say it should handle your system, but....

The HarOCP review is scathing.

CM really needs to step up the quality on their PSUs.

I have a 550 watt CM PSU sitting in my closet as a backup. I only use it in cases of emergencies as I don't tust it for everyday use.

Sorry about ragging on the PSU...

Anyways, I'd try swapping the PSU and see if that helps.

sounded exactly like what happened to me. first check the power supply and if the plug is loose. the way i fixed it is that i changed my motherboard because i installed it poorly. do you have a gpu?
