Pc Keeps Shutting Down

My pc keeps shutting down randomly
SPECS:
CPU: Intel Core2Quad Q8200 2.33Ghz (no OC)
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 8400GS
RAM: 4GB (2GBx2) 800Mhz
HDD: Maxtor 40GB
MB: Asus P5Q PRO
PS: GT-ATX500W

'Randomly'? Please be a little more specific. What scenario is your system under when this shutdown occurs, for example what applications are open, what is running, etc? What are the temperatures like for the CPU and GPU while undergoing the equivalent scenario?

Well i didnt really monitor the temperatures but i know that my cpu and gpu never go over 60c (did a stress test using heavy load and furmark). I was woried about temperatures however and it seems like my hdd might be failing, if that is correct then i might have another problem. In the past year 3 of my hard drives died (thats why im using a 40gb hdd) and it seems like this one might be dying. Im not sure what causes my hard drives to die but i dont want to risk buying a new one if it's going to fail.... Any suggestions?
