experts need help! I turn on my pc and started playing nba 2k14 with medium settings with a 6 minute quarter length, on the 4th minute or so it starts to lag or play in slow motion. even when im playing farmville 2 on facebook its the same. my gpu is a sapphire r-7 250x, msi 880gms-e41 and phenom 2 x2 555 for my mobo and cpu with 4gb of ram and a generic 500w psu. tried a different gpu, an hd6570 and same thing, it lags after 5mins after turning on the pc or after restarting it. tried my gpu on a different pc and it works fine. so i think its not the gpu. probably the other components. pls help..TIA!

This sounds like a typical heat and/or power issue. How hot is your CPU and GPU at idle and under load (like when gaming)?

Does this happen if you are just browsing the Web for an extended time?

Are you overclocking anything (CPU, GPU, memory)?

If you operate the system with the side of your case removed, does the system perform normally?

thanks for the reply, i havent check the temps yet. any suggestions on temperature checker apps? im not overclocking anything, just browsing the web and playing games for an extended time. havent tried removing the side panel of the case while using the pc. i ll try it as well.

Is the fan on your CPU Cooler spinning?

yes i've been using the same heatsink together with the fan. should i replace it with a different cpu cooler? any temporary solution?

yes. the fan is spinning.

You could remove the old thermal compound between the heatsink and the CPU with new. That could help a bit. You could also replace the OEM heatsink with an aftermarket model.

Your replacement options depend on the make/model of your case (to determine how much space inside your case you have) and budget. For example, this heatsink is very popular, affordable, and effective, but only if it fits (CM Hyper 212 EVO):

the 212 evo wont fit my case. for the meantime ill just apply a new thermal compound and maybe its time to change my board and cpu as well. i had them since 2006, and im looking at getting an fx6300 and msi 970 gaming board as replacements.

awhile ago i played LoL while the side of my case is removed and placed an industrial fan beside it. The game ran smoothly with no fps drop or lag, cpu temp was around 60c then i decided to play nba 2k14 and thats were it started to lag again. havent tried reapplying a new thermal compound yet, probably next week i'll try it.

i have replaced the thermal compound and i was able to finish a full game of nba 2k14 for 30 minutes with no lag, however cpu temps still went up to 70c but it did not go to 255c like before. should i put more thermal compound?

its a powerlogic 550w psu.
