Question PC lags and slows down randomly

I have an i5 6400 with 16gb of ram and no gpu. I have windows installed a 120gb sata drive and some hard drives. My computer slows down sometimes even while using only one app. I don't know what can cause these kinds of problems. I have enough ram and I don't normally use more than 4 apps at a time.

i-5's tend to have that issue . they reach 100% utiliztion even on firefox and chrome . i-7 and i-9's dont' share this issue with i-5. i think it's a deliberate marketing ploy by intel .

How full are your drives?

What is your RAM load? background processes and so forth?

Do you clean the PC regularly and monitor temperatures?

This is unfounded and ridiculous to suggest. I am not sure what you are getting at with some of the replies I see you posting. A person doesn't have to be right or knowledgeable about every single subject, but spewing this manner of nonsense as an assumption that it is helpful is pointless. This offers no information of value to OP at all.

18gb free on os drive, cpu load is showing as 100%, ram about 65%, opera gx with 9 tabs, aseprite ( pixel art tool ), paladins, movies and tv, pureref running and no hiccups. but sometimes when loading a program the pc lags for no reason at all

As a start go to Task Manager/ Processes and see what is causing that high CPU load. I am not familiar with all of the programs you mention, but it seems a lot to keep open at the same time if you don't have to.

As an aside, you are also pretty close to the OS drive being "full" while considering the free space overhead it needs to run properly. File Explorer/This PC will show the status bar for use as a red bar instead of blue when too full as Windows sees it.
