PC not booting with certain GPU

Hello!
My friend's SLI GTX 1080 PC recently shut down all of a sudden and then it stopped booting, my first thought was that the PSU failed as it was not showing any lights or nor any signs of the PC getting power. After taking it to a generic computer shop he got the PC to work with just one of the SLI'd GPUs. So to make sure that the gpu is faulty i installed it on a completely different pc build and the same exact thing happened; no signs of power going to the PC, but it boots fine with a GTX 1070. Any idea on what could make this sort of thing happen? possibly GPU damage? Thank you. If you would like any more details please let me know as this is my first time posting here. Thank you again.

Solution
I'm not sure I follow, but here's my understanding. Your friend has two cards in SLI. When he had the problem, a shop proved one card(card X) works. You installed the other card(card Y) on another computer and it did not work. However, a third card(1070) did work in that computer, proving the computer works.

So if that's right, then obviously card Y doesn't work. As to why it doesn't work, it could be a lot of things. Overheating, a power surge or something else power related, a blown component like a capacitor.

Yes precisely! So is there any way I could check what the problem is or should I start prepping it’s funeral? :)
