Hello Tom's Hardware community,
Long time lurker here, but I can't seem to solve my latest problem, so I feel like I need to make my own post.
So here's what happend: Few days ago I decided to buy a new processor. I decided on the AMD FX-8320 Black Edition. It seemed like good value for my money, but all reviews said that the fan it came with was really bad. Because my current CPU fan was getting really loud lately I decided to also buy the Scythe Mugen 4.
Because of my own fault the CPU came one day earlier than the fan. I decided to install the new CPU with it's own fan to use for one day.
The next day the fan came. When removing the CPU fan I couldn't seem to get it off, thinking the CPU would stay in place because of it's handle I pulled the fan a little harder and to my suprise it came of... with the processor stuck to it...
After close inspection 3 pins were slightly bent. Following a YouTube tutorial I tried fixing them and tried if the CPU would still work.
I put the CPU back in, connected a fan (only with a wire) and turned on the power. Hoping it would at least POST. All fans and lights turned on, but nothing else happened, no display, no beeps.
To be sure the CPU was broken and mot the mobo, I decided to test my old CPU, but the same thing happened.
Putting 2 and 2 together I taught the socket on the mobo must've broken.
Without really giving it a second thaught I bought a new mobo, the ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2.0.
Today I received the new mobo, but after testing it with the old CPU I'm still getting the same result...
I'm hoping someone here might know what's wrong.
Any help is appreciated!
Other things I have also tried:
-Removing the cmos battery for at least 5 mins, same result...
-Only 1 RAM stick in, tried all my RAM sticks and all different sockets once, same result...
-Tried it after removing the SSD & HDD, same result...
