Question Pc not powering on, please help.

I am new at pc building and just got enough parts to build my first one from scratch, I put it all together and it will not power on, when I flip the switch to the power supply the mother board light turns on but when I press the power button, it makes a noise like it's trying to power but then stops, again I am new to this so I may have just put the computer together wrong, but as far as I can tell it should power fine, any help would be appreciated, thanks!
