Hello!

A few days ago I downloaded Windows 11 Insider Preview build 22000.51 from the following site: UUPDUMP (https://uupdump.net/).

I’ve successfully installed the OS clean, then, when I wanted to rename a file, Windows told me that the file is no longer there!
So I thought that it’s a buggy build and I re-installed Windows 10 clean.
Then, I realized I could not access any of my data partitions (D/E/F). They’ve all became RAW partitions and asked me to format them.

My ESET NOD32 antivirus is up to date and found no viruses.

Question:
Does anyone know if the UUPDUMP site is a dangerous one?
Does this site have a history of promoting malware?
(I’m never going to use that site again).

Solution
Are all the partitions on the same drive? if so, how old was drive?
RAW is what happens to corrupted partitions.

Does anyone know if the UUPDUMP site is a dangerous one?

Before today I hadn't heard of it before but a few places are now promoting it.
Its not a Microsoft site, I looked earlier.
I don't know how safe it is. It is likely the ISO come direct from Microsoft. People have been using site for several years, I found one time MS were asked about it but they never gave an answer.

I don't know if 2 are related.

its essentially how they do cumulative updates. they only install what is new, not everything. That is what UUP is, not what the dump is but I assume the dump are all CU? and Insider builds it seems.

It could possibly be a bug in Win11 that messed up your partitions. I noticed a W11 bug yesterday that froze the Win11 update function, claiming to download an update for a file that doesn't even exist on my installation. That's why I prepare full disk images using Acronis before each installation. There should be no doubt that Win11 is extremely buggy software that cannot be trusted.

well, it is now but they are still making it.

Windows 11 is still only available in the Dev channel of the Insider program. The three Insider channels are Release Preview, Beta, and Dev; Dev roughly corresponds to a software alpha, and Microsoft itself describes it as "the newest code," with "rough edges and some instability."

it will be better in a few months.

Why you think I am still on 10?

To use gaming as an analogy, the Win 11 presentation event was like E3, all cut scenes. The insiders build is the actual game. They never look the same lol.

You are beta testing Win 11, yes, its going to be buggy.

The 4 partitions that became RAW were:
  1. D = RAID 0 partition on 2x Samsung 970 Pro drives.
  2. E = Samsung 970 Evo Plus drive.
  3. F = Kingston SATA SSD.
  4. Western Digital external HDD which I connected to the PC.

It must have corrupted the file system. Nor sure how it can made 4 different drives raw at same time.

drives okay now? did you have backups?

i wouldn't have had any drives attached during install, that is advice given for win 10 and installing alpha version of win 11 is not safe idea. I hope this wasn't your only PC.

I did not connect the external HDD during OS install, I did that a bit later, but before knowing that there was something wrong with my partitions.

Yeah, it’s the only PC.
And the external HDD was my main backup solution.
Fortunately, my most important files are also saved on physical DVDs.

PS:
It’s just a lot of wasted time to re-copy & re-install everything in the PC.

We should use this as a lesson and maybe an example of why you don't put Win 11 alpha versions of your only PC.

Stories like this are valuable as if all people see is success they too will jump in. I am only human, even I would get tempted if it worked fine in every case. we need them to be wary, or patient as it will get better. This is early days, a taste of things to come.

And with Linus showing people how to install this on anything, its only going to get more busy around here. More people doing what they shouldn't yet. You can tell people why not to do it yet.

We still trying to work out what makes it different to 10, apart from being unstable right now. UI seems to be bulk of it, though they have time to add the features they portrayed in the reveal cut scenes (I question if presentation wasn't all faked, as why did their build have features that aren't in insiders now). But Android integration and Amazon in the shop aren't features I will ever likely use. More making Win 11 a mobile phone... than adding anything to PC experience. Win 11 desktop is like a phone now, 1st day I get it I will have to turn all the crap off. Same as I do on a phone.

Reveal was to create hype and over power rational people into installing something that currently in reality doesn't match the cut scenes. People have to have it even if they can't tell you why

I tried to install from the iso (english-version, only 4.05GB) as virtual machine in VirtualBox (latest) on a dynamic disk of 60GB, but the installer says that my machine does not meet the requirements :-((
I also tried with a disk of 80GB static allocation. This gives the same result.
The installer does not tell me which of the requirements are not met.
Is it possible to enable secure boot and TPM on a VirtualBox-machine, or is it impossible to install Win11 as VM in VirtualBox?
Please start a NEW thread for your particular situation.
This one is a totally different problem.
