Hi All,

I have an issue that is noticed 99% of the time when playing games (Fortnite, CSGO, LoL etc). My PC (Windows 10) will randomly freeze and i will have to force restart. I have run hardware tests and dont seem to be able to put a finger on it. My PC specs are:

PC Specs:
CPU - Intel Core i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz
MOBO - Asus Z170 Pro Gaming
RAM - G Skill RipJaws V 16GB DDR4
GPU - MSI 980Ti Sea Hawk Edition
PSU - Seasonic 850W 80PlusBronze ATX

Cooling:
CPU - Corsair H80i GT
GPU - Corsair HG10 N980

Peripherals
Monitor - AOC 24" G Sync 144hz 1ms
Mouse - Logitech G402
Mouse Pad - Logitech G240
Keyboard - Logitech G910
Headset - Hyper X Revolver S

Temps:

All drivers up to date, RAM tests done, thermal paste changed, dust cleaned out of entire case.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

What sort of load are those temps taken under ?

35-37 idle is not horrendous (also affected by ambient) but for a water cooled CPU i would have expected lower if this is idle. What were you doing when temps at ~55

Have you tried overclocking this CPU or GPU at any point ?

Thank you for your reply Jay.

At the higher temps, i was gaming (Fortnite, CS:GO, COD BO4 etc). No, i have never OC'd.

Thank you.

Gotcha, in that case your max temps are actually very good !!

Next best would be PSU. What model PSU and wattage please mate ? Do you have another PSU handy (Friend or Family) 500W+ that you could try in your system ?

Certainly enough power, my concern is around whether or not its functioning properly. Power surges or drops could be causing the freezing. How difficult would it be to get your hands on another PSU to test ? You have some solid water cooling in there and im sure you dont want that failing. Its just a precaution as we cross another possibility off the list but if you cant get another PSU to test we cant cross it off.

Have you run anti-virus and malware scans ? If you haven't run it recently can you download Malwarebytes and run a quick scan of your system. 7 Day trial version will run a full scan at no charge.

Also, how long has this been happening for now ?

Some good suggestions. I was considering resetting my OS and starting fresh to eliminate any software/virus issues as my next step, then swapping out the PSU next. It has been going on for as long as i can remember.....I think the first time it occurred was not long after i bought it which makes me think it cant be software/virus related ?

Thoughts?

Update: I have ran Malwarebyts and it found 26 items which have now been quarantined. I also ran a full scan with windows defender. I will see how this goes. If the issue happens again i will do a Windows repair/fresh install.

Thanks for the help.
